My grandson was just recently diagnosed with pneumonia. During his tests they discovered he has 3 spleens. (He has had a lot of pain on his side). The Emergency Room Dr said he could lead a normal life, but this child is very small in stature and does not gain weight. Could his 3 spleens be related to lack of weight gain? Is there any danger in having 3 spleens?
:)
I am 38 years old and found out I have three spleens a few years ago. I had a kidney stone from a crazy diet and needed a CT Scan. They found shadowing in the scan which was three spleens. I never knew it and never had problems. In fact, the doctor said I probably wouldn't get sick often. He was right I haven't had a cold in at least 10 years even after my entire house was infected. I dont really know any negative aspects other than limited space in our abdomen can cause pain. Pneumonia can come with Pluracy (water accumulation) and that causes pain around the diaphragm or lungs. I haven't experienced anything negative having three spleens.

Hi my name is Craig and I was born with three spleens as well. except in my case i was born with a blood disorder called Spherocytosis. That means my red blood cells were peanut shaped not normal shaped. And you spleen will kill every misshaped or damaged red blood cell. So my small, medium, and large spleens were doing its job by killing all my red blood cells. So at 6 years old I was running out of blood and turning jaundice and almost died. Went to the ER and had a blood transfusion. And when I was 9 I had my 3 spleens and a gallbladder removed. Now I have created my on gene Hereditary Spherocytosis and will be passed down to my kids. Thats my story thanks for reading.
