I had C5-C6 fusion. Surgery went well and after that I hadn’t any neck or shoulder pain, but I still have numb fingers, a burning left thigh. Occasionally I am feeling weakness in my right arm and leg. I have an 7mm bruise and myelomalacia at the C5-6 level of my spinal cord from the herniated disc, which I've had surgically repaired. I've tried with various medications and nothing really helped.
My friend has been diagnosed with cervical myelophaty from his cervical spondylosis. He has all signs of myelophaty: Hoffman’s sign, muscle weakness, spastic gait. However, he did cervical MRI and spinal cord was seen as myelomalacia. I think on C5 too. As cervical MRI has shown spinal cord compression the only treatment was surgical decompression. After surgery he was on physical therapy for few months.
My dad is 47 years old, and suffering from cervical spine myelomalacia at c5-c6. Doctors have advised surgery as his legs are getting numb. Are there any risks involved in surgery or after? Will he be fine?
