Hi,
I have a continuing problem and I need advice. I have a narrow pulse pressure (a form of hypovolemia with increased vascular resistance). I am wondering if anybody knows what causes narrow pulse pressure.

Hey,
Narrow pulse pressure may be caused by: damping of pulse wave, tension pneumothorax or other severe air leak, improper catheter position, congenital heart disease, myocardinal failure or shock.

The most common cause of a narrow pulse pressure is a problem with the one of the heart valves. The valve that separates the heart from the aorta is called the aortic valve. In some people it does not open easily or does not open all the way, and the heart cannot pump blood to the rest of the body with normal efficiency. This results in a condition called "aortic valve stenosis." It may be that in your case you had some mild degree of this problem that was not apparent until pregnancy. During pregnancy, the heart has to pump out more blood because of the blood going to the fetus. When the heart has trouble meeting this increased demand, it can cause symptoms like light-headedness. Talk to your doctor to if you are having any symptoms that you are worried about.
