GOD. It is a sad & unfortunate truth & reality, that in todays world, these things really do matter, to such a degree, as to make one wonder & subsequently & inevitably doubt & question their own selves; their own value & identity & self-worth.
It is understandable; up to a point & within reason, at least; to question ones own value & self. Mostly unto & for ones own self. It should not be so much, as to be for what others think of you to be. But in todays world, these things are even more prominent & prevalent & rampant & that trend seems to be continuing to no foreseeable end.
20-30 years ago, I recall the majority of these talks & issues, centering around the global fixations of womans beauty magazines, TV & movies mediums & the way in which these 9/10 & 10/10 people were constantly & consistently portrayed to the vast majority of the general public as - " normal " people. The beauty, the make-up, the near-perfect body. All in the guise, of these super-elite people, being the actual norm.
It was said, that such things truly undermined the value of ones own self-worth & own personal identity & self-image, for those who payed too much focus & heed to them. Those who surrounded themselves too much & gave too much thought to these things, in comparing themselves, to the constant influxes of near-perfect mortal beings being portrayed to them, via these social outlets. It was said, that these things were destroying " little girls own self-worth " & personal ideals & self-image of themselves.
I never payed too much attention to these things, myself. As I am one who believes in the ideals of Live & Let Live, Do Unto Others; etc, etc. And I thought to myself that these ideals would ultimately hold out, among those that held these same beliefs & convictions & that these trivial, vain, superficial things would come to pass, in time.
20-30 years later, now in the present, these things are actually quite worse. With the advent of the internet & all other forms of social media, the masses have latched onto these things, with even more focus & desire & intent.
It is like a plague; or a virus, to me. A sickness that sweeps over those, with eyes to see & ears to listen, but not enough of their own person beliefs, fortitudes & convictions to sustain themselves. Be this; Be that, or else you will not be liked. Or perhaps you will not be as valued & accepted, as those that do.
These ways of thinking & being, are a sickness. We are all guilty of vanity & superficiality, up to some point. But where & when do we draw the line. When does too much of a good thing, become - too much...
The answer to that question; & why I decided to voice my thoughts on this matter is; when someone cares enough about themselves & what others think of them & how they are perceived by them, to such a degree, that they worry about their Adams Apple, or lack of it & what others think of them because of it.
This is todays world. These are the things that consume us. Not all of us. And some, more than others. But we all have our faults. We all have our own misgivings & short-comings. Our own thoughts, our own beliefs & things that drive us forward. But when we let others do that thinking & that " driving " for us, then we start to lose site of what truly matters in this life.
My point is; My advice to anyone is; Dont care so much, about what others think of you & who & what you are, that it alters & steers your own course in this life. Care enough to let yourself, be yourself. Value what you do have & what & who you really are, for who you are & others will follow suite & see these same things of true value, in you as well. Dont let society & vanity & superficiality & mass commercialism dictate to you, your own way of thinking; your own way of being & guide your way. Too many of us do. Find your own way. Be your own true self. To yourself & then to others, if you can.
But if you paid a little more attention, you would have noticed, that they are talking about a visible adam's apple, even though they only say "adams apple", because most people will understand what they mean. You shouldn't call people retardet for using not 100% correct language, if it's still clear what they are talking about.
