Hi,

My father just had orthoscopic surgery on his left should (rotator cuff, 4.5 hr surgery) and now he is suffering from numbness to his lower extreminities and severe back pain. The doctors are stumped and the surgeon feels this was not caused by his surgery. His blood pressure was very high through the night, but has seemed to come down a bit today. None of the pain releivers they give him are working, and nobody seems to have any answers. A doctor friend of mine suggested it could be the sciatica nerve from sitting so long? But it seems that would be better now as it is 24 hrs later. Any help will be appreciated.

to answer your question no the pain just dulls abit. it does not go away despite any painkillers you use, but i can offer a suggestion to lessen the pain to some degree.talk to your doctor and try a combination of two meds. 1. valiun2mg. twice a day, and 2. norco 10mg. every 6 hrs. also get a massage mat from your local wal mart it does wonders. I have the exact same symptoms. My doc (surgeon) had no idea why it would be like that. But my PT guy offerred that it may be due to the position they had me in during the 2 hour surgery. They may have had me in a position that pressurized the sciatica and now I'm feeliing the results. Don't know why the surgeon didn't think of that but then he wouldn't want to admit that would he.
