A week ago iwas eating popcorn, that night i felt something stuck in the back of mt throat. I have tried gargling, coughing even gagging to remove it. It doesnt move. I can feel it at all times. No pain, just feel it. I went to an ENT Dr., he quickly looked with a depressor and mirror. Could not see anything. Told me that it was probably a scratch and would go away in a week, then prescribed antacids and prednisone for the irritation. i dont have indigestion so no acid irritation, any ideas? I feel like he diagnosed me in the 10 secs he walked in the room. The object moves slightly around.
Hello,
I had a similar thing happen to me, but my doc thought it was just because I had frequent tonsil infections in the past. When I was looking into this back than, I found out about tonsil stones - small chunks of what you would normally cough up. They tend to cause similar symptoms to what you describe - constant feeling of irritation in the back of your throat.
The other thing is, it's a good thing your doc gave you antacids because whatever is causing your throat to be irritated, stomach acid and reflux could make that situation a whole lot worse. But, in case you had your tonsils removed, and since it's already been a week, perhaps you should see your doctor again. Maybe you're allergic to some additive or to popcorn, and that's totally different situation.
For how long do you need to take prednisone?
Thank you for your reply, since it wont let me sign in, i am as a guest. The prednisone is for a week, i do not have any problems with stomach acid, no irritation like that. Also no throat issues, sore throats, never had strep. And no bad breath associated with stones. I have chosen not to take the medication, as prednisone is not healthy and i have no acid indigestion. Just really confused
Also i went to the Dr after i had it one week, he was not concerned that it had been that long and said to check back in a few weeks if it hasnt resolved.
