Good morning,

i will be having full knee replacement in a week. I currently take about 8 msg daily . Im completely freaking out with worry . I hope someone can help me with some advice on what to do.  I have seen the horrible way Drs and esp nurses treat people once they know we take subs . One nurse told my sister after a horrible  c section that she was a "druggie" and should be ashamed to ask for help with pain . I do not want to be treated that way . It's not an option to discuss with dr.  advice please ? Thank you to all .

I thought if you take any pain meds (opiates)'while on suboxone that you will get sick and is given to keep those dependent or addicted to opiates from using them? So, if the doctor gives you straight pain meds after surgery if needed for pain- then is he another doc who does not understand about suboxone.?.I am scared for you. Ask the doc who prescribes the suboxone what happens if you take any pain pills while having suboxone in your system. I read somewhere above that the pain meds would not work if the suboxone is in your system and that is why it is prescribed in the first place. To keep those addicted or dependent from using in the first place. You will get SICK,,, I have never taken Suboxone but also see,a sin mgt Doctor. Actually, the one I have been seeing for years sent a post card saying "I'm outta here more or less and basically sold all the stir the files to another Pain mgt clinic who are very concerned with the high doses f Extended Release Morphine I currently take. Well, if anyone could have come up with a solution to my back issues I would not be taking them as there sure as heck isn't any buzz factor involved. So, tonight I take 60mg of Morphine instead of the 90 and take an extra 10 mg of Oxycodone to make up the loss of the Morphine. Allowed 30 mg of Instant release Oxycodone a day for break thru pain but usually take 20. Was told to take the other 10 to help with the missing 30 mg of Extended Release Morphine. They are considering a Pain Pump or Some kind of stimulator. is the suboxone helping with every bodies pain or are most people taking it to keep off opiates? I have never felt buzzed or craved any of these meds. I take them to keep my chronic pain at,bay. It did not want to get up to 90 mg of Extended Release Morphine but the new pain management Doctor sad if he took it-it would most likely kill him !, it took years to get to this level of meds but this suboxone, -does anyone ever get off of it. .? They say it's not addicting but t is. I once tried to get a doctor to we in me off pain meds and gave me a long paper about this med everyone is talking about. Now

I would, ask, your,Doctor who prescribes the suboxone what will happen to you physically if you are given opiates for post operative pain-no matter the dose? It's been my understanding that suboxone prevents one from using heroine or any opiate without getting sick as in withdrawals!!!!! That is its purpose. To prevent those addicted or dependent on opiates from using them. And if unstop taking suboxone a few days before, r u not going to go thru withdrawals? Ask.

You shouldn't be posting information to people. You have NO idea what your talking about.

This is the most outrageous thing I've ever heard Suboxone will stop blocking your pain receptors in less than 2 days if taken in low to moderate amounts. In fact if taking less than 4 mg a day. Which in reality is all you need for any amount of opiate dependency IDC how much your dosing, you will be able to feel the effects of the pain killers in under 24 hours. The statement above seems quite extreme and I find it extremely hard to believe their experience to be true. It is very possible however that you convinced yourself that it was not working which then caused it to not work. Suboxone is a very potent pain killer and drug quite frankly. So if used to a decent amount of Suboxone a day a low dose of pain killers which is what would be supplied after surgery might not be unough to keep you comfortable. Taking 8mg of Suboxone a day is like being used to over 50mg of oxycodone a day. If not closer to 100mg of OXY. So your body still has a relatively high opiate tolerance even though if caused by the Suboxone.

No, I understand why you are blaming the Naloxone, but in actuality, buprenorphine itself is a partial opiate agonist/antagonist with a much stronger affinity for opiate receptors than Naloxone. Naloxone is an antagonist, but the fact that bup kicks it off of receptors with ease combined with its considerably shorter half-life make a huge difference.
Basically, the pharm company needed a gimmick to make people think the Naloxone in Suboxone is an abuse deterrent so they can keep ripping us off with the sublingual film concoction (the PATENTABLE FORM) instead of losing revenue when we all switch to generic buprenorphine. (I switched years ago)
Take care everyone. :)

Naloxone is an opiate BLOCKER. You should really fact check before giving medical advice.

That is not correct. The naloxone is the opiate blocker. It is in there in order to keep the patient from using opiates..........It is then same drug they give heroin addicts when they overdose!!!

I am having back surgery in a few weeks and all my Doctors have been told that I am a Opiate Tolerant Patient who is on Suboxone. Currently waiting for surgery I am taking nothing but Gabapaentin and Soma. It does little to stop the pain but must help somewhat . I am told my surgery will be pain free and I should just continue my suboxone up until surgery. The Doctors said they will deal with my post op pain accordingly and I trust them. I want nothing to do with opiates....They are evil and I will deal with the pain

Your message gives me hope for an upcoming surgical procedure I have. I hope you were truly able to stay off the suboxone for good.
Best!

You cannot make a statement like that as if it were true. Not everyone will be able to feel the effects of the painkillers after 24 hours. I had my gall bladder out and had a similar horror story after quitting subs for a week before the surgery. Then, I had a back surgery coming and I didn't know how long it would take the subutex to get out of my system so I started a month early. So glad I did. The doctor gave me 180 Percocet and told me to "Take one every day until you feel it." After a week of taking a Percocet a day and no subutex, I felt like I was wasting the Percocet because I felt NOTHING. So I waited a week, then started trying them again to no avail. It was hellish as I was in withdrawl from the subutex. It took me 21 DAYS to feel the effects of the Percocet. I hope everyone is hearing this It took 21 DAYS for the subutex to get out of my system and feel the painkiller. I was taking 8mg of subs twice a day before I quit. Give yourself a lot of time if you are going to quit subs before a surgery. I am back on subutex for pain and I now have a surgery in 4 days. I was just told today, it is an emergency surgery and I haven't stopped my subs yet. I don't know what I am going to do. I suppose this time, I will take the subs up to my surgery and take extras after. That is all I can do. I will try to post results.

Suboxone is pain medicine also, ask your doctor to up your dosage till you are able to get back to what my you was on. I just went thru rotary cuff surgery and bicep tendonitis, my sub doctor told me to quit the subs two days ahead of the surgery , i did as he asked and went thru withdraws for a month after surgery i did take why the surgeon suggested Norco 10/325 every 4 hrs if needed i trusted both doctors and was wrong i went thru the pain from my surgery then the pain from withdraws . I've been on subs for 9 yrs and my regular dose is 2 8/2 mg daily from the same doctor o kept praying for the pain to stop and when i went back for my visit with the sub doctor o told him that the Norco did nothing to me and acted like no big deal will put you back on your normal dose, he did and i had instant pain relief , o kept telling the surgeon that his Norco was not working and he said i might need to switch back? The doctors never even discussed me, i would love to know how long bupe stays attached to the receptors blocking the other opioids i promise i was in DTs for a month and i thought they would never stop? I thought many times about going back to the subs but o thought if i was in this much pain i could not handle it if they madee go into instant withdraw, remember i did not know i was in withdraws i thought the pain meds was working for they hole month, i counted on my doctors who I've had for 9 yrs. All the drs need is a 8 hr course to prescribe this pain med? Seny me home after surgery with my script for Norco and said they will see me post op, when i did see them told the my pain has never been less than 8 since the surgery, said its a painful surgery! With no meds i agree 100%.
