This is called renal atrophy. There are many causes of different sizes of kidneys. One of the common cause is kidney disease. I strongly suggest you to go run some tests help you doctor determine the root cause. Hope everything's fine.
My right kidney is also smaller. I had kidney surgery in the past because I had multiple kidney infections. (UTI) My doctor found my right kidney was smaller in an ultrasound of the kidneys. They said it isn't a big deal unless it's bothering you. Mine is, so there resulting in doing a bunch of test on me to see how much it's actually functioning. I'm 15 years old and have had major kidney problems my whole life. But, as long as your kidney isn't bothering you and doesn't have scar tissue it should be fine that one of your kidneys is smaller then the other.
Good Luck!! Hope I helped.
I also had the reflux but I had suregery, Did you
:| I hate to hear you have to go through more stuff. My question is this; what has happened since your posting. I am worried. My son had reflux surgery. Luckily he was seen and had his surgery done at the Dell Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas. He is 3 and has a left smaller kidney (size of 6 month old) and right (the size of a 7 year old). He has 20% functionality in the left kidney.. and almost 100% in his right kidney with no scarring. Left kidney is very scarred. My question to you is what should I be looking for in pain of the kidney for my son? around what age did you feel as though your kidney was giving you problems. Did you have injuries to the kidney? Just curious. I am sure that at some point we may have to have his kidney removed and if so; I will be donating my kidney to help him unless it is not necessary. Any thoughts??? thanks

Hello all, am 37 yrs old & I have just been informed by my doc that my right kidney is smaller by 0.8 mm as compared to the left one. Have also perform the blood for creatine , etc & all seems to be within the normal range. However, i still fear that my right kidney will turn down in the future. Any advice/guidance will be most welcome & this keep hauntering me.
