hey there. im 19 also, and i actually just got home from the hospital with a cyst on my ovary. its the most painfil thing i have ever experienced. i got lucky, mine ruptured (sp?) .. so i dont have to have surgery. however, my whole family has a long history of having them.. my mom has had several surgerys to have them removed. she said to tell you its not as bas as a doctor will make it sound. you will recover in no time.. and its actually GOOD to have them removed b/c if you dont.. it could keep you from having kids later on or possibly even death if it got WAY too bad. the bets thing for them is to erupt so to say. that way, they just go away on their own. hope that was of some help. good luck with your surgery.
Yes i am a little worried but the doctors say it will make me feel better in some ways. I can not have a child naturally so i do need a c-section but i also have a large mass on my right ovary and a small one on my left side. It was told to me that it is ovarian cysts and that it happens to a lot of young women. It is more commen than anyone thinks! The doctor told me that they dont know to much about them but are still learning as they perform surgery to study the cysts more. Mine that i have are filled with blood and yes intercourse is painfull sometimes as well as my menstruals where, lots of heavy cramping. I will be going into surgery may 18, 2009 to have my c-section and removal of my cysts also will be getting my tubes tied. I know it will be a hard recovery but my consern is all the scar tissue. I also hope that they will not have to take out my right ovary, i am only 28 and do not want to go through menapause yet. Is this all really nessisary to have to go through? This is the hardest dissision i have ever had to make. I feel like a experiment! Should i allow all of this to really be done? The doctors make everything sound so easy and yet painfull to. %-)

Hi im 16 years old, and i might have ovarian cysts. I get my periods for 2-3 weeks at a time and am in sooo much pain durring those weeks. My ovaries still hurt even when im not on my cycle. My family doctor put me on birthcontrol, and when it didnt fix the problem, she kept putting me on higher prescriptions. when she told me and my mom that she wanted me to go on Yaz, my mom decided to tell me that both Ovarian Cancer and Ovarian cysts are in my genetics. She also told me i could not go on Yaz due to the Heart Disease that runs on my dad's side of the family. She schedualed an appointment for me to see an obgyn. But the other day when i was in class and i unexpectedly got my period and just started tweaking out and crying because of the pain, she had to move it up. Ive had these pains/problems since i was 12. I want to find out if i can get the surgury asap. Dont be afraid of the surgury, in the end it will make you feel better. My cousin just had one, she is 17 and she said it was worth it. When my Moms cycts were discovered, she was 42 years old and they only found them because she was having a partial historectomie. And to the mom who wont let her dauchter have surgury, you should be more concerned about her well being and what she wants. Just because your surguy didnt go well doesnt mean hers wont. The surgury will make her pain go away.
I have just been diagnosed two months ago that I have polycystic ovarian disease and I have unawaringly been having them since I was 16 years old. But I was placed on the Depo-Prevera shot when I turned sixteen but I believe that made the symptoms worse. Because I would experience terrible and agonizing pain that I would wish on my worst enemy. Right now the doctor whose diagnosed me, has placed me on another birth control which is to reduce the male hormones that supposedly causes the cysts to form
I have a 17 yr old granddaughter, she has had problems with her period's since she started at 11 yrs old.
She has had Ovarian CYST since 2007 this weekend one landed her in ER, a ultra sound showed one had blowen up. Her mother had them all her life and when young had one of her Ovaris removed because of the cyst's. NOW she has had 6 children with ONE ovarie. She had the opt. to remove the cysts many times. YOU have to do what's the best for you and find the right dr. to work with you. BUT dont just let them go and think they will go away, they are nothing to mess around with. People have died because of them. AND I cant belive you the MOTHER who said that YOU wont let her daughter have the surgery because YOU want to have grandkids. I sure hope she lives long enough for YOU to have grandkids.
YOU sound like my grnd daughter's mother who didnt care about her daughter and thats why my grddaughter is in the BIG mess she is in now, if her MOTHER would have taken care of her years ago she wouldnt be in this pain and faceing more to come.
WAKE UP lady alot of great kids need home's.
and we would take one in our home with open arms if it meant having our granddaughter with us.

You know, most women will get ovarian cysts at least once in their lifetimes. That seems like a lot of women, but the good news is that most of these cysts are totally benign and not all have to be removed either. Do you know what kind of cyst you have? That matters.
You could always look up whether such cysts are generally removed and why, or ask your doctor the same thing so that you better understand it. That surgery is probably done with a laparoscope though, so it will probably be minimally invasive.
I understand you are scared though. :(
Hello, can I ask a question here? When I have my ovulation I only ever get cramps on the left side but it is pretty severe, sometimes hurts more than my periods and I even need to take time off work. It didn't used to be this way. My periods have become heavier and more painful as well. And I get nausea, sometimes, as well as quite a bit of abdominal bloating.
So, do you think I could perhaps have ovarian cysts? Are these the symptoms? A friend told me this might be what is wrong with me so I thought I would ask.

I am glad you asked! Ovulation pain is often THE sign of ovarian cysts! They often either form or burst during this time of the cycle, especially in women who have polycystic ovarian syndrome and so multiple cysts, they are likely to notice more pain.
Ovulation pain can also signal other conditions ranging from endometriosis to bacterial infections, and even sexually transmitted diseases. Ovulation pain is not always pathological so don't worry just yet but do definitely get that pain checked out. It might enable you to get the treatment you need.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. It is "good" to know that I am not crazy. Some articles say that ovulation pain is completely normal but they only mention the pain, not the nausea and other related symptoms. This has been going on for quite a while now and I keep thinking what if it is nothing and I am just being silly. I guess I should face up and go to the doctor though because it really might be something that needs treatment.
For anyone who suspects they could have ovarian cysts, some of the tell tale symptoms of ovarian cysts are:
* Pain during intercourse
* Changes in the pattern and flow of your menstruation
* A feeling of bloating or being full in your tummy, and also just outright pain
* Needing to go to the bathroom often and having the feeling that you're not emptying your bladder out completely when you do (because the cysts can press against the bladder and prevent urine from discharging)
Anyone with sudden and severe tummy pain or when that pain goes along with throwing up and raised temperature should just go to the ER. Cysts can rupture and cause bad issues.
