if you are in a relationship, be sure to ask your partner if they have had any symptoms. i got one from my boyfriend. he didnt know what they were or that there was a name for it until i asked him and explained the symptoms. one thing that has kept them from coming back for me is a cranberry extract that you add to your drink once daily. it is tasteless and works really well. it is about $30 a bottle, but worth it. it is called CranActin syrup.

I get them every once in a while. I think I'm getting one now so that is why I'm researching them online. Seriously, the most disgusting cause of it (if you are a woman) IS YOUR MAN! I used to get them alot when I was with my ex.. he was uncircumcised (sp?). He was clean, don't get me wrong, but that was major for the reason as bacteria still builds up in there whether you are clean or not. When we broke up it stopped. Now I find I get them because of mis-whiping issues.. front to back, back to front.. whatever it can still happen. So now I am basically taking massive amounts of cranberry pills. Juice helps but not so much (blueberry and pomagranite is good too!) Really, the only way to get rid of a UTI is antibiotics and your dr. should test your urine every time to see what medicine will help the best. They can't just prescribe you (insert name here) because they all don't treat the same infectious bacteria. So to help it, you can take the OTC pain relievers, they do work, you'll feel satisfied in your pee break but it isn't a cure.

Ok to set the record straight to everyone, Chronic UTI's are actually one of the top ailments for alot of women and yes they can get them from their sexual partner, that doesn't mean the man has a UTI, it means he can have bacteria that affects a woman and then it causes a UTI because women's urinary tract is shorter.

Also, once you have a UTI, any doctor will tell you this, you are supposed to drink only water. Any juice over the counter has either some sort of sugar and also any blueberry or cranberry juice is mixed with apple and grape juices which can cause diahrrea and in turn make your UTI worse due to dehydration along with other issues.

Cranberry is a preventative, taking a supplement every day can help prevent, but if you still notice you get them all the time, as I do, regardless of the steps you take to prevent, go to your doctor, get checked for all STD's as some of them have the same exact symptoms, if you pass all of these tests then you will be sent to a urologist who will then possibly put you on a standing antibiotic.

Any doctor you talk to or any research you do states all the same things, women who get them chronically it is still unknown as to why, and its women like me who deal with it that get frustrated by others who try to lecture us on what to do, believe me when I say we know, wipe front to back, drink water, avoid caffeine and spicy foods, pee before and after sex, be clean before and after sex, take cranberry supplements or drink cranberry juice, avoid irritant perfumes and such, wear cotton underwear.

Basically, go the doctor, and don't listen to anyone online. Every woman is different, every body is different, and you need to tell your doctor about the problems you are having before it results in anything worse.

I have actually gone through one without seeing a doctor by drinking lots and lots of cranberry juice. Though I do not recommend it. Its painful. I get them often and normally go without seeing a doctor. This time around I'm seeing a doctor to see if I can put these to a stop. Have any of you guys had them not return?

But I've read up on these quite a bit. You dont only get them from your partners. It can come from something that was in your drink or from just not taking a shower. There are plenty of reasons to get one other than sex.

I was displaying all of the classic signs of UTI for the past two days and finally mustered up the courage to go see a doctor. Turns out that I DON'T have it; and that I may have the clap. So its better that I went to the doctor to get it checked out and get the right treatment. Trying to diagnose and treat yourself can be very dangerous if you misdiagnose. So I urge you to go to the doctor if you're not 100% sure, or have never had UTI before.

I never had a problem with UTI's until I became Prego with my daughter 5 years ago now. Seem like everytime Im done with my period I get a uti. I have found nothing helps other then going to the doctor! Everything over the counter will only help a few days then its right back to step one. Best of Luck to everyone!

I am so glad I landed on this website. It helped me a LOT! I've been having bladder infections for years but they always go away after a couple days from drinking warm tea. They come back once a couple months and just these past couple days they have been giving me sooo much pain! I mean so much pain that I can't even sleep in the middle of the night. I know that antibiotics are best for this kind of infection but honestly, I never knew of any over the counter medications until this morning when my co-worker gave me some AZO. The pain has calmed down a bit because it's only been about 30 minutes since I've taken it. All these small tips really helped! Thanks! =)

I was told UTI's are not contagious and cannot be passed from your sexual partner. I asked my Dr. the same thing because, I only get UTI's after sex.

This is incorrect. You will not get a urinary tract infection from your partner. It is not a sexually transmitted infection (STI), and it is NOT contagious. The infection is caused by bacteria getting into your bladder or kidney, where it multiplies causing pain and discomfort. During sexual intercourse, the bacteria in the vaginal area may be pushed into the urethra and eventually end up in the bladder. This is the reason why females who are sexually active often get UTIs. However, many UTIs caused by intercourse can be prevented by urinating immediately after intercourse.

Do you have an IUD in? If you do you need to have it removed & sent off for testing, to see if it has e coli on it.
