I have suffered with vaginal cracking for years as well. If I wash with soap & water, it still comes back every week. Lately, after washing with soap & water, I put some salt (about 1/4 cup) in my hand & swish it around the vaginal area, while in the tub. Presto, no more sores.  :-)

Hello Ladies:

I did suffer from the same thing as you all do (sounds like it anyway) on and off for 4 years after my daughter was born.  I went to 4 different doctors. One told me it might be Gonorrhea, imagine my horror (tests were negative). The second doctor told me he forgot what it was called but that I would have it for the rest of life and provided some home remedies for relieve. The 3rd doctor, I can't remember what he said. The 4th doctor, my knightess in shining armor took one look and said she believed it was a yeast infection.  She prescribed Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP.  Let me tell you ladies it went away. Praise the Lord! It comes back every now and then (long btw). As soon as I feel it on goes the cream and it is gone. My doctor saved my life.  I am serious that how bad it was.

Good luck to you all that you find your cure.

I had the same thing happen to me just last week. I thought I cut myself shaving. I've been in a faithful relationship since before I got tested during my last pap, so I knew it couldn't be herpes. So I did what the majority of what people said on this board, I went and got the 1 day fix pill of monistat yesterday morning. by last night I was feeling better, and this morning I'm completely fine. I also picked up some AZO yeast pills, it's supposed to help fix it and prevent it from happening in the future. I'm going to continue taking those for a few days just encase. But thanks to everyone on this board for helping. I'd never had a yeast infection before, and it truly concerned me until i found this site.

Don't be afraid to tell your Mother. It is much better to tell her, so you can go to the doctor, to get it figured out. I hope my teenage daughter will be brave enough to talk, nobody deserves to suffer, and if you suffer silently, it can eventually cause SERIOUS harm, and make you afraid to become intimate with someone (when you are older, please!). Nothing you did caused it. I've been dealing with this for 2 years. I even posted on here earlier. I have since gone to the doctor for my annual exam, and she noticed my skin around my vulva and such being very white-ish. I thought maybe it was scar tissue because of the cracks, healing causing itching, and a terrible cycle! She had me go see a gynocologist, meanwhile I looked for MORE information on-line. I have Lichen Schlerosis. The treatment is a steroid cream that I put on twice daily right now, then in another month, just once daily, and eventually I think I can just use it a couple times a week. Boy, does that cream work! Stops the itch, stops the cracks, and I can even tell that things are getting back to more normal color. Go here, read more, print it out and give it to your Mom. Get an appointment!  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

I have been dealing with the same thing. Except the slices I have are not only in the vaginal area bur the rectum and the crack of my butt ass well. Also in the creasses of my legs and I am slightly overweight so I have them under the fold on my abdomin. I've been to about 15 doctors ans so far no answers. Been to every specialist. However whenu mentioned u had a severe illness I do as well. Would u mind sharing what your disease is or is it too personal. I have a severe case of crohns disease. Just thought we might have a common factor.

Wow...Its amazing to see how many of us are going through the same thing...I went to the doctor 1 1/2 months ago with itching that would not go away..I thought I had a yeast infection so I  treated my self 2 times with monastate before I went to the doctor but when it came back again I started getting worried..Married for 10 years so I really did not think it was anything that could be transmitted. My doctor did a test and said I had bacterial vaginites. I used the medicine for 5 days and it came back again..went to my family doctor and they gave me the same medicine..and because it is a vagenial antibiotic I then had to take yeast medication again..well still have itching and cracked skin around the vagina and down toward the annus...this sucks not helping my sex life at all because sex will only make it hurt more. I am 47 years old so now I am wondering if it could also be menopausel..

I have been having this same problem as everyone described.  I have been working out a lot lately and was concerned it might be more like a jock itch thing.  Tried the over the counter treatments for that with minimal improvement.  I tried the Vagisil creams Neosporin cleansing with Witch Hazel and still nothing.  I have no health insurance so random testing is out of the question.  I am going to try the probiotics and some tea tree oil next.

I have had this issue for a couple of years now. The first gyno that I saw just told me that it was yeast and there was nothing they could do about it other thank prescribe some dyflucan. Since then I get the irritation at least once a month sometimes more. Dyflucan will clear up the symptoms for a week or so but then it's back. Nothing seems to have cleared it up totally. I think it definitely has something to do with my period, because it always happens right before and right after. Maybe the ph balance is getting thrown off by the swing in hormones and that is letting in some kind of bad bacteria or fungus (gross i know right). I have also heard that it is due to dry skin. I don't know about that, but as i have tried most other things. I am going to try applying vitamin E oil. I read on another thread that this helped a few other girls... I'll update in a few days.

This is a follow-up to my last post. After using the steroid cream (Clobetasol) twice daily for 1 month, then once daily for another, I am now down to using it just once a week, or if I "feel" the symptoms are back. What a relief to know there is a way to get back to being more normal! A gynecologist is the one you should go see, and take them a printout of Lichen Schlerosis, so they can read up on it if they need to. If something as simple as a steroid cream can make such a difference...it's worth a try! Even though 1 1/2 years ago when I went to my regular doctor, and had the same symptoms, she didn't catch what it was, just when my skin down there changed color (same other symptoms btw), that she had me go see a gyno.

I had a similar issue when I was a teen. The folds of my vagina (labia majora: the outer folds) were very inflamed and the skin would actually stick together. I tried yeast infection creams. Then one Dr gave me an antibiotic for it. Neither did help. Another Dr gave me estrogen cream to put on it, and that seemed to help. I went on birth control pills, and it got better. I can no longer take birth control pills because I had a blood clot.

Fast forward to now, which is over 10 yrs later. I have very low sex drive, almost completely absent because I'm battling some psychological issues and medication is likely causing the drop in sex drive. I'm also in a monogamous long-term relationship ( so Godbless him!), so there is no thrill of the chase, as some people say. So, I do not have sex often, and he masturbates. Anyway, I wanted to spruce things up down there to be more confident and kind of prep myself for intercourse. And so I used a medicated douche that contained iodine. It did sting the inside of my vagina when I used it. It certainly killed the mood!

At the start of my period, which was a few days ago and 1 month after the douching, I started to develop the cracks in my skin on the perineum ( between the back of the vulva and the anus). Urination hurts the area but not defecation. I do urinate a lot because I have to drink a lot of water since one of my meds is dehydrating, so the area is exposed a lot. I also use the cottonelle wipes and am wondering if they help or hinder. I always wear cotton underwear, too. My laundry detergent is the regular stuff I always used. Oh yeah, and my insurance sucks!

I have the vagisil cream, which just numbs the area, but I did not use the warm washcloth method. I am going to buy a 3-day regimen for yeast infection and switch to fragrance free baby wipes. If this does not work, then I will see the Dr, who will likely shirk responsibility because I can't take hormones and am on so many meds :( I can bet she'll prescribe an antibiotic at that point. I guess we'll see.
