I was recently sent to the Urologist after a sonogram by my Ob/gyn. During the sonogram he noticed some 'mass' that shouldn't be in my bladder. Upon visiting the new doctor, I was diagnosed with having a 'grossly infected' bladder and sent home with antibiotics to kill the infection.
I had no idea.
It turns out I've got a third kidney and the ureter that goes down from the kidney goes totally into my bladder - but doesn't deposit into my bladder but instead drops into a pouch or secondary bladder within my bladder, and then drains from there.
This is causing the infection he believes. Right now we are waiting to see if I am reinfected after a period of time.
My question is this... This is clearly something I've had all my life. The doctor said that if I run a fever and have sensitivity on my right side (where the kidney is located) I should go to the hospital for IV therapy.
I've run unexplained fevers all my life. It has been so common that I don't even think about it when I get them, I just ride the course and pop a pill and move on. As a child I was sent home whenever I wanted because I could get away with it... as I was almost always running a fever. It isn't as common now as an adult, but from time to time they hit.
Should I assume this is the result of a bladder infection? If so, why don't I feel a thing? My mother and sister have had UTI's and tell me they HURT... but yeah, I've never had one so I can't tell you... and bladder infections, according to the 'googling' I've done, should hurt as well.
Is this just so commonplace (like the fevers) that I dismiss the symptoms? Or is it possible to have infections pain free?
