This is not a fair post. I developed pancreatitis at the age of 20. Mine was caused due to a few years of mis-diagnosis of my gallstones. The doctors constantly blamed my pain on either drinking or acid reflux. It turned out I had a gallstone that was blocking my common bile duct. This caused all the enzymes to back up and well, it is now a life long disease. I haven't quit drinking, though I should, it would probably reduce the flare ups. But please, don't encourage people to think that drinking alcohol is the cause of pancreatitis.

Hello my husband is in a similar position and he is not quitting drinking. I was wondering how long your husband suffered for from diagnosis to his final day? I know everyone is different it just seems the doctors won't be direct except to say whilst he is still drinking he has a fate worst then death.

Maybe not. Im a 23 year old male diagnosed with severe pancreatitis last year and almost died. People are starting to drink more younger nowadays and pancreatits has always been elusive and somewhat unpredictable. Ive been sober for 2 months now after 2 more hospitalizations (im pretty stubborn and really liked the effects of alcohol) BUT i was never out of control with drinking. Until it started giving me pancreatitis. Tell him to quit drinking because it Does hurt really bad, is a miserable feeling that can kill you. So in conclusion, booze sucks. Choose life. Even if it involves building an entirely new one without alcohol.

If you are diagnosed with pancreatitis caused by alcohol use/abuse you have to stop drinking. It's hard, trust me I know. I got up to drinking about a fifth of vodka/rum or about 15 beers a day for 5 years, I'm 29 now. The first pancreatic attack put me in the hospital for 9 days. No food, no water for 8 days, all I got was IV fluids and lots of pain meds for the the worst pain I've ever felt (doctors told me the level of pain I was at was worse that a broken bone or gun shot) seriously, I was on morphine, OxyContin, and Toradol all at once and all it did was kill the pain, I didn't sleep those 9 days. After getting a MRI, CT scan, CAT scan, X-Rays, an EKG, and daily blood samples the doctors basically told me I had screwed my body up. Thankfully I was medically detoxed right then, I stopped drinking for a few months. I liked drinking and thought after stopping for so long I was ok, so I started drinking again and just beer, a few hard alchohol drinks here and there. Within 8 months I was back in the ER and in the hospital for 5 days, same routine as last time... So I stopped again, after s few months started drinking again and just a few beers here and there, back in the ER...

I've had 6 attacks total, last one was about 2 weeks ago. So my body, the doctors, and everyone that cares for me knows I cannot drink or I will die, it's that simple. If you've had an alcohol induced pancreatic attack that sent you to the ER, you WILL have another at some point, and any of them could be your last.

It's hard to stop and I'm headed to a therapist next week, I'm taking it day by day and sh*t will get better, it has to be better than getting drunk all the time. Seriously look at all the negative effects of alcohol, and think of the pros, the cons greatly outweigh the pros, especially in a case where it sends you to the ER every 6 months, like me.

So do whatever it takes, the hospital got me financial assistance for the 70,000$ in hospital fees I racked up and for follow up visits and even for the therapist I'm seeing. So there's no reason not to get help to stop, I'm not ready for AA, but that's me. So I'm doing what I think will help, and will continue to do so until I can be comfortable being sober. Do whatever you have to do to stop, your life depends on it.

Dear Lauritz,
I am very sorry to hear for your condition as my younger brother suffers from the same symptoms, willpower and yoga will certainly give you strength the one and only advice after going through various discussions with doctors is that it is suicidal to continue drinking and smoking after acute pancreatitis, I sincerely suggest that either you quit or if you are married and have a family dependent on you, you should get your finances right cause the pain and suffering they go through and will have to their entire life all for your selfish desire and pleasure will at least give them some assurances. I pray please quit brother, you are as dear as my brother everyone loves you.

My husband is an alcoholic and has pancreatitis. Unfortunately, quitting drink is the only thing to get your pancreas back to normal. Also other things aggravate it coffee, oil fatty foods, butters and oils. There are lots of websites to find the what you can and can't have. Mybiggest fear is my husband continuing drinking and becoming diabetic because of it or getting cancer of the pancreas and dying in 5 years! Apparently this is way moreserious than anyone cares to tell us so check out as many websites about "drinkingcausing pancreatitis

" you will beshocked but informed!!! Sorry for the bad news! Good luck! I will be praying for you along side prayers for my husband!

I had it 3 times too--and almost died 4 years ago. I have replaced alcohol with candy and fruit. I have been dry for 4 years now and was imagining I had been dry long enough.

No support for that idea in this group!

We have to grow up. Do you want to live or die? I hope you choose to live. If you can't do it, God can. Now you study on this and decide. You've played and been babied long enough. This is not harsh, just reality.
