I am 59. For the last three years I had a bit too much calcium in my blood, and my primary care physician kept telling me to stop taking calcium supplements. It took a visit to another physician (one of those emergency care places) to realize that something was wrong and that it's never okay to have too much calcium (opposite to what my family doctor was telling me). After multiple tests (scan, ultrasound, urine and blood test), I had a parathyroidectomy exactly a week ago. The surgeon removed 3 and half glands. Calcium went back to normal after the surgery. For over a year I had bone pains, could not sleep. Those symptoms are gone :-) They disappear overnight. That disease gave me osteoporosis in my back. I read a lot about it, and hopefully that surgery will stop the osteoporosis, but not sure if it can be reversed? A week after the surgery, my brain is still foggy. I am a writer, and have not been able to write anything for over a year, so maybe I am a bit impatient and should give my body time to recover. Just had a blood test done yesterday for calcium level as well as a thyroid panel. The surgeon thought that my "foggy brain" might still be from the anesthesia. I thought I was more alert the day after the surgery than five days later. Anyone else has any similar experience. I know I have to be patient, but....
