Hello. I am 21 years old and back in May I was diagnosed with PCOS after I was rushed to hospital with suspected Apendisitis. When they opened me up under general anesthetic they discovered my Ovaries are a mess and one large cyct burst and caused trauma to my bowel causing a large amount of infection in my bowel, Right ovary and utarus. They flushed it all out and I spent two weeks on strong antibiotics. Now 4 months later I am really suffering.
Each month is getting worse. My periods are drifting further and further apart but pms is getting worse. My breasts get stupidly huge and painful (i'm only an A cup but when I am due on they go up to a B) and when my period does finally arrive I just get heavy spotting. My periods used to be like clockwork. They used to last 5 days and be a constant heavy flow. Now all I get is a small yet heavy gush once a day for three days. I was well over a week late and thought I was pregnant because last month I had the same thing but it was just brown/pink in colour and very light for three days. My breasts have been painful for the past two weeks and gradually got worse. Now I have my period and they are still painful. I am not on the contraceptive Pill as I do not get on with it at all due to the fact I suffer very low blood pressure usually of 90/50. The doctors advised me to stay off the pill and see how my monthly cycles go. I keep feeling sick and have moments where I think 'do I need to run to the bathroom?'. I am urinating frequantly and just feel really run down.
I have a 3 year old son and I am very lucky to have him. I do want more children in the future but somehow the way things are going for me at the moment I don't think it will happen. I am currently studying so I am not desperate right now.
I have started suffering with very greacy spotty skin which is something that has NEVER affected me. Hair on my lower arms has become a lot more promenant. I'm gaining excessive hair growth in my pubic region which is gradually making it's way further and further down my thighs. I really do feel discusting!!
Also because of my symptoms recently I have done two pregnancy tests and both have come out negative.
I am seeing the doctor again next week but I just want to know if other PCOS sufferers are going through the same thing and if so what do you do to ease the symptoms as I know there isn't a cure for it.
Many thanks
Hi sorry to hear your having a bad time at the moment but there is hope I had the PCOS I was diagnosed at age 14 after having a benign cyst removed after doctors thought it was a ruptured appendix. I was told I would never have children due to not having a menstral cycle and also the embarrassing hair growth. The reason for the PCOS is a inbalance of the hormone oestrogen and a higher level of the hormone testosterone. Hopefully when you see your doctor they will prescribe you a oestrogen only based mini pill which is the same as the contraceptive pill, but not as heavy duty. It will balance the hormone levels out and you will start to see a difference, as I did as now Iam a mother of three. Good luck with your appointment and hope it all goes well.

I know how you feel, I am 22 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16, I have been on the pill ever since then. I had gone almost a year without my period, and when I finally got the courage to tell my mom, it was then they figured out what I had. If you can't go on the pill, another treatment is metformin. It was actually made for diabetes, but it helps PCOS, I was on it shortly and started to get my period normal, but my doctor put me back on the pill, because metformin works, but it had bad nausea and diareha side effects for me. The extra hair does suck, I shave a lot. I hope to have children one day, I get scared when I read articles that say PCOS is a cause of infertility. I am in a serious relationship and I did explain PCOS to him, so we will see what happens. I've been overweight ever since I hit puberty and I was told that's another side effect, but metformin can help you lose weight if you are on it. Just know that you are not alone.

HI, i've been diagnosed with PCOS since i was 17 and i'm now 24. I have been married since I was 19 and the one thing missing from our relationship is a new family. Since I was diagnosed I went from a size 8 to a whooping 20 on my wedding day. I got put onto metformin and lost weight so now i'm a size 16. In total i lost 4st. Back last year I had an operation which is relatively new for PCOS called ovarian drilling. This process is like a laparoscopy but what they do is surgery on your ovaries to remove any testosterone that is being produced by PCOS. Unfortunetly for me a year on and we're still trying so now my last chance is the clomifene tablet which is a hormone tablet which helps you to ovulate. If this fails its IVF which I really don't want to get to. I was quite lucky I haven't gained any facial hair other than the usual moustache LOL! But I just want you all to know that there is always hope, I keep telling myself that all the time. I have met lots of people with the condition that have children. Help is always there, via internet and doctor's. I have alot of experience in this and if you do have any question please don't hesitate to ask. I just hope now after 4 yrs we get what we want...
