Hi, I would like to know what are chances for Cardioseal septal occluder or other catheter techniques and their benefits compared to open-heart- surgery in PFO closure?

There is a possibility to avoid open-heart surgery, as new techniques are developed and one of devices used is CardioSeal septal occluder. It consists of two flexible umbrellas passed through a sheath from the femoral vein and detached to one side of the PFO. Other option is Amplatzer device used in treatment of PFO and ASD. In this case two flexible wire baskets, are deployed on either side of the opening. Transcatheter closures are successfully performed and these techniques are further developing. Minimally invasive closure techniques are widely recognized as beneficial way in treatment of PFO closures.
