Hi, I am in the 8 month of pregnancy and for the last two days I have been experiencing this excessive pink mucus in my underwear. I don’t have any other symptoms, or pains or anything and I haven’t had sex for 4 months now with my husband, so I don’t think it is an infection (but who knows). My mother says that excessive mucus is normal as the delivery is approaching but I am very worried because it is pink. Can you give me any advice or explanation? Thanks
The excessive discharge you are experiencing is called mucus plug. During pregnancy, there is a lot of mucus situated on the cervix, protecting entrance of the uterus from infections and as labor approaches this mucus may be expelled as a sign that your cervix is slowly opening. This doesn’t mean you will get contractions the following day but it might. It can, however, take days or weeks before you start having contractions. This mucus plug may be sticky or stringy and blood tinge (pink color) to it doesn’t represent a problem.
