I have had pins and needles for several years, which were worse after showers, but could happen at any time, randomly, and did not seem to favor any part of my body, but moved around. My primary care doc. had routine blood work done but everything looked fine. I suspected allergies and tried eliminating a number of things from my diet, but did not improve. Was seen by a neurologist, had an MRI, (in part to eliminate the possibility of MS,) as well as other neurologic tests, but came up with no answers. I finally went to an internist and had more extensive blood work done, which came back abnormal. I was sent to a hematologist who ordered a blood test which checked for a specific genetic marker, Jack2. This test came back positive and determined I have a blood disorder called Polycythemia Vera, which is treatable but not curable. Not happy news, but a relief to finally have an answer after years of this misery and wondering if I was "loosing my marbles." I have recently begun treatment for it and am looking forward to eventually being free of pins and needles. I would recommend that anyone with pins and needles have thorough blood work done. My hematocrit level was the biggest red flag, I believe. Hope this is helpful information.
