For me, pleurisy is confusing disease, because I have heard that often the pain disappears. However, even though, the doctor told them they still had trouble on the chest. That is why I have to admit I do not understand what pleurisy is. Can you tell me more about this problem? I would like to know more about pleurisy, because I think this is interesting disease.

For the start, you need to know that pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleura. There are two pleurae, one around each lung, and they are as a two-ply membrane that encloses the lung. This two-layer protective wrapping fits closely around lung, with no actual space between the inner and outer layers. The layers are joined at the edges, so that the pleura might be compared to a closed balloon and become completely empty of air. Only a thin Iubricating layer of fluid is between the inner and outer pleural lining. Ordinarily, the smooth linings and lubricating fluid serve to allow the lung free movement. Now, you have to know that pleurisy can arise from various causes and take various ways to develop. Sometimes it could happen with excess fluid in the pleural cavity, and sometimes without, while sometimes it could be accompanied by no pain sometimes very painful. There are two kinds of pleurisy, where primary pleurisy is an inflammation arising in the pleural tissues themselves, from a germ that attacked them directly, or perhaps from an injury or growth. Secondary pleurisy is an added effect from some other chest disease, pneumonia, for instance. The symptoms and course of primary and secondary pleurisy may be the same, with only the cause different.

I went to three doctors until diagnosed. First one told me I had asthma second told me it was emphasema.I am 32 years old and gave up smoking one and a half months ago after 17 years.Chest x rays came up clear.
I thought i had strained muscles in my chest area it hurt to move and i was on the ground in agony every time i coughed. it felt like a stabbing punching pain under the ribs with a constant ache.
Third doctor told me that it was Pluracy. Am on antibiotics and am now on my second course. it is no where near as painful but has seemed to come to a point where it is not getting better or worse.
How long does this thing hang around for and does it re occur once you get a bad cold or bronchitis etc?
Any info would be great, as i am sick of doctors bills!
