I tried Claritin, it didn't work for me.

So I have seen two posts here in the last month, one gay man that said it started after receptive anal sex and another guy that mentioned biking also mentioned a sex/prostate toy. I have mentioned that I mountain biked with a hard seat, and also took finasteride just prior to this starting. When on the propecia, after about 3 months I developed the most incredibly painful prostatitis/pain in the prostate I have ever had. It was an incredibly painful bout of it and that is around when it started. This makes me think that damage to the prostate is a trigger as well. I have noticed that the more that I sit the worse this is. If I am out of work for a week and not sitting in a chair it always seems to get better.

I still get benefit from Baclofen and although I want to quit (I am down from 30 to 15 or so), whenever I go cold turkey it comes back with a vengeance and I end up with pain afterwards that kind of impacts my entire day. I want to quit baclofen but can't.

Again though, I believe finasteride is what caused this for me. Ironically, I think it may be possible that going back on the drug could also probably cure the condition or put it into remission because it causes direct changes to the tissues in a mans prostate and could also affect the nervous system down there in a way that shuts it off.

If I could go back in time I would never take the drug though because I believe it triggered this problem.

There was a period of time I did mountain bike too and my seat was not great but I never remember that causing this issue. It started after the finasteride usage started. Perhaps a combination of both?

This is interesting. I read in another case report that the guy also did a lot of cycling and I myself have an exercise bike with a saddle that is too uncomfortable and causes numbness in the pelvis when cycling for too long. So there might be a connection.

Any other cyclists here?

I'm hoping to set up a forum so we can take this discussion off this god awful forum and put it somewhere people can paste links and have real logons. I just saw a recent study about our problem online so it looks like research is still being done which is good news.

Can you cite the author of the study? Thanks!

John, Steadyhealth does not allow links. I don't know why. It's one of the reasons I hate that this is the best forum on the net for guys with this problem. It's a horrific problem. It reminds me of PGAD in women. Women commit suicide over that condition. Just google this "Sleep-Related Painful Erections-A Case Series of 24 Patients Regarding Diagnostics and Treatment Options." You will find the paper. Google PGAD too. It's persistant gential arousal. A woman in florida comitted suicide because of it. She had a compulsion to masturbate because she had persistent arousal that only went away when she masturbated. Talk about a hellish conditon. This is a hellish condition too.

Bill here,
Had this condition for over 3 years. I've been cycling(5000km/year) for over 20 years. I had about 5 events per night 3 years ago. I've made a few lifestyle changes, one of them is giving up cycling(I've replaced it with running). I am down to 2 or 3 events per night, not sure if it's related to cycling, could be.

Hello guys,
I'd like to create a FB group for us.
But first, I need at least a new friend to do so.
Just look for Jean-Sébastien Leclerc. You will see the mention Pharmascience.
I'M with my gf who wears sunglasses. I'm on the left of the picture with a dark shirt.
Stay tuned for more info.

Hello guys,
JS again,

I just created a FB group called: Sleep-related painful erections: we are not orphaned anymore!
It's easy to find: just use the search box of FB and any of the key words of the group name.
Special thx to Keith who had the honnor to be the first guest :)
I will be adding some content gradually.
For now, i wish that most of you guys will join us.

Again, if you want to know my personal story, check at page 34 of this forum.
I'm really excited to welcome you so we can share scientific data and personal experiences.
Take care guys!

Is it possible to hide who is a member of this group? I would prefer that only members can see other members. Is this possible in FB? At the moment I can see the members although I am not a member.

I think it would also be a good idea to ask for some specifics so that only people affected (or medical doctors) can join the group.

Thx for your feedback!
I'll try to hide the members.
And, yes, i was thinking about questions prior to join the group.
I'll add it too.
Thx again.

If we want to add new members, we have no choice but to see the actual members . Sorry.
Otherwise, it won't be possible to recruit guys that we are not friends from FB.

I just added questions prior to join the group. Feel free to give me feedback on those, or on any other concerns.

In this case I guess there are many affected men who won't join because they don't want to share with the world that they are affected. Perhaps we should find another community that guarantees more privacy?
