I AM ON DAY 12 POST TONSILLECTOMY. I AM A 52 YEAR OLD FEMALE, AND HAVE ALLERGIES AND SINUS PROBLEMS. I AM EXPERIENCING ALMOST PANIC-LIKE ATTACKS OF FEELING LIKE MY THROAT IS CLOSING, AND THAT I CAN'T BREATHE, EVEN THOUGH I AM MOVING PLENTY OF AIR. SWALLOWING WAS BETTER 2-3 DAYS AGO, NOW I FEEL LIKE I'M BACK TO DAY 2. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR EXPLANATIONS? THANKS :-(

Hi,

Recovery after tonsillectomy can last up to 4 weeks if everything went well. You are at your second week after the surgery and you should be seeing improvement now with the wound.  You have to know that your throat is very sensitive now and you have to watch about everything. If there is a chance that you have got the allergic reaction to something it might affect your tonsillectomy recovery.

Can you see if you have any swelling in the throat? What did doctor told you about the diet? Are you able to swallow any hard food?

If you notice any blood coming out from the wound you need to visit your doctor, because something is wrong with the healing.
