Hi ya. I had an emergency chole on 27 Jan 08 and I can tell you that you are not the only person to be consitpated. I didn't have any pain or symptoms that anything was wrong with my gallbladder. Then I woke up in the middle of the night with a little bit of pain, rolled over went back to sleep. Did that again and decided to not go to church - but went ahead and sent my hubby and our girls. By ten I was calling him crying because the pain was so bad. I was taken to surgery by 1500 and I've never loved a surgeon or hospital more. The surgeon said the pathology report noted huge stones and could only have been worse if it had ruptured or been gangrenous (he said one more day and it would have been both.)Prior to having this surgery I had had diarrhea for six months but just thought it was IBS or from the sugar free sodas that I had taken a liking to. Since the surgery I am actually having solid normal bowel movements; never did think I would be so grateful for such a thing. I am having problems with foods - not necessarily fat but spicy foods, had more blood drawn today and might be going for another CT next week. Blah!! My doc has required that I be on a lowfat diet - only 20 grams!! Maybe this will make a change - who knows???

Hugs to anyone going through anything like this and I pray for all of us enduring this daily!!

Hi,
I've just read all the posts on this subject and am feeling very relieved that I'm not all that abnormal after all. After spending a week in Hospital waiting for antibiotics to calm down the infection in my Gall Bladder, I had it removed 1 month ago this Friday just gone and have had almost no follow up care at all. No follow up appointment with the Hospital or my GP. If it wasn't for the fact my body didn't like those dissolvable stitches and decided to push them out, causing my wounds to become infected, I would have had to deal with all my dressings etc on my own too!!! The wounds have only just closed up (thanks to some carefully place 'steri-strips') leaving the top one looking like a coin slot on an arcade machine. Put a quid in and see what happens!! XD
Joking aside though, I am a little concerned. My whole abdomen feels solid, like I've suddenly acheived great muscle tone overnight, and is quite bloated and distended and pretty tender to the touch. I've also had diarehea on and off, bad indigestion, cramps, 'wind pains' and awful headaches. I can't seem to sleep properly either, without the aid of Zopiclone (a sleeping tablet we have here in the UK). All in all, I just, don't, feel, quite, right. I went to a GP (mine was on holiday!) and he poked my tummy a bit and told me I was fine and that he 'just felt sorry for me'!!!..WHAT AN ARSE!!!! So I really don't know how to proceed. I haven't been told what not to eat or do and just want to feel ok again!! Any advice would be appreciated? Oh and I'm 25 and a UK size 14 so don't fit into their 'typical Gall stone sufferer' catagory either!!

I hope you all feel better soon,
Take Care

Digestive enzymes are a great addition to any diet, they help digest food especially when you have no galbladder !!! !

Wow,
I sure wished I found this site a long time ago! Apparantly, I am not alone. I had my gallbladder taken out last year. I had several small acid reflux attacks but thought they would go away using prilosec tablets. I took them daily before breakfast, and afterward, I could eat anything I wanted all day with no discomfort. They are quite expensive, so when i would run out, the pain would overtake me. I was geting "acid reflux" after eating bread! :$

One day I felt extreem pressure on my chest and I couldn't breath. I took several tums, and it didn't work. I would lay down and it would get worse. The pain was so bad, I thought i was having a heart attack. I was barely able to drive myself to a clinic. When I told them my symtoms, they called 911, rushed me to a hospital, called my husband, put me in a hospital gown, and put me on the list for gallbladder surgery that same night. :'(

It was an outpatient procedure, and told me it had to come out because it was filled to the top with stones and the organ was hardening on the outside! :$

No one offered me an alternative. They told me if a stone clogged the duct to my liver I could die. Of course I had it removed!

Twenty-four hours later, I was minus one gallbladder and $25,000.00 for the surgery. :-(

I was never advised of any post-diet afterward. I didn't even know what the gallbladder's function was before then. So I educated myself.

I also found the "Eat Right For Your Blood Type" diet. Actually it is not a diet at all. It is an eating regimen for all different blood types. I am a blood type A+. The book was right on target explaining health issues I am prone to with my blood type. I have searched the internet of various post gallbladder diets and, the "Eat Right" regimen included all foods I were to eat all this time. I have never felt better in my life! :-P

(I also found a website called GallbladderAttack.com It is also filled with good advice, natural cleansing recipes and vitamin aids to purchase for relief of reaccuring attack symptoms.)

My regimen includes oat grain bread (not wheat), Lots of vegatables and low acidic fruit, and no red meats. Chicken and some foul only.

My husband is a type O. He HAS to eat his red meats to feel energetic and healthy, and it is part of his regimen. He has different vegatables and fruits on his list, but there are some items we can both have.

You have to check out this series of books! (There is "Cook Right For Your Blood Type" as well as well as mini food lists books for grocery runs and exercise sections in the books) It all makes sense and it also explains why people who go on diets don't all lose weight. They are not eating the right foods according to their own blood types!

As I said, I feel healthier and I am losing weight natually by eating the correct whole foods and vitamins according to my blood type. I purchase some foods and vitamins from my local health food store, but I mostly find the items I need at my local grocery store.

I reccommend this book to anyone feeling miserable due to post surgery symptoms. It will get rid of your "blood sludge" and will detoxify your body as long as you adhere to your "beneficial food lists" and avoid all the foods on your "avoid food lists". Trust me, YOU WILL HEAL FASTER AND WILL FEEL BETTER, even if it has been several years. It is never too late to get healthy! XD

I have suffered with IBS now for 12 years this June. I tried everything for IBS and nothing helped me. I saw a show on TV this last summer Medical Mysteries, Dr Habba, he said that my IBS was due to my gallbladder dumping bile. Very debilitating.I wanted to die. Now I take one or two Tums, Ultra 1000 Max Strength Peppermint before every big or fatty meal. The cheap Tums don't work, made me worse with gas. I seem to has gas, but now that I found out that I should not be eating all those fats that I love, I think it will go away.It seems to be better already. My sister is eleven years older than me and has diverticulitis and terrible belching all the time. I tell her it must be her gallbladder also, and her intestines must be backing up the bile into her stomach. She eats fats, sour creams and butters. I am the opposite, I have the bile dumping down causing diarrhea. I keep thinking about the 7 sins, overeating! It is my sin.
I strongly recommend the Tums and stop the butter and all the excess fats.I am still new to this diet thing.I am starting my low fat diet right now.I went to France for 23 days last September and I took the Tums with every meal and had perfect bowel movements. So, between the two, diet(less butter) and Tums I had a wonderful trip.I still ate want I wanted, duck, beer, wine, cookies, gelato and all the good food they have there.. I did not eat sour cream, or much butter.Try the Tums, what do you have to lose?

I had my gall bladder removed 6 months ago. Since then I have had two very bad attacks. I don't drink normally but 4 months ago I had two diet pepsis with cocoanut run -- then I ate a taco salad, boy did I hurt. Chest pains, stomach pains, etc. Went to ER. Was told my system wasn't used to not having a gall bladder so this reaction was normal since my digestive system was getting use to not having a gall bladder. Now 2 months later, I had the same kind of two drinks and then spaghetti -- same thing happened. I'm waiting it out but feel I need an answer. The hurt is terrible.

I have suffered with chronic gallbladder disease from my 30's into my early 40's. Finally my gallbladder was at a 5% working capacity after having a special x-ray examination at the hospital in the nuclear medicine department. I had two ultrasounds and nothing showed up. This last examine at the hospital was my last resort. Finally had my gallbladder out and then was fine. Two weeks later I called EMT because I thought I was having a heart attack and couldn't move. Found out my Pancreas was out of wack with an enzyme count over 5000. Normal is up to 200 (so I'm told). I ended up staying in the hospital for 1 week on intravenious fluids. I could not eat or drink anything as this triggered the pancreas to up my enzyme count. I find 5 months after surgery that I am still very off balance and just don't feel 100 % especially with my eye sight. I went to the eye doctor yesterday and the doctor advised he couldn't give me a prescription for eyeglasses because my prescription changed 4 times in 45 minutes. His wife has the same problem and has been struggling for over 7 years. He believes that it is flucuating blood sugars that is causing the problems. My diet is still very controlled after 5 months from the surgery date. A dietician gave me a handbook to look at quality of food which has helped me big time. I can't eat huge quantities of food so the food I do eat must by very high quality for my low tolerant system. First and foremost I need to remember "no butter", "no oils", "no grease" pretty much very low fat or no fat items. This is very important if your forced to eat out and have to make a judgement call. I eat one banana and one apple a day for the potassium and fiber benefits. Then I make food no bigger then the palm of my hand for each sit down entree. I have other little frustrating food allergies that are not deadly but effect my digestion that I stay away from. My biggest problem is why my eyes are causing me so much grief that I am off balance all the time. I'm eating as instructed and I take a trigliceride pill because it measured high before my surgery. My diet now has natural sugars from the fruit but I eat low fat and low sugar foods now. I have lost nearly 45 pounds since the surgery from all of this change. If somebody knows the answers to my problem or has similar problems I would love to know what their doctor is telling them. Mine just says wait it out. I don't have diabetes either because I've been check two times. This has been very frustrating? Sheesh!

Our surgeon told us to expect post surgery diareeha (sp) but my mother never had that...he said she could actually return to a normal diet which is not true; she's been very sick because without the gall bladder the fats and dairy prbducts can't be probken down...so fats are a no no as is dairy (we switched to soy milk)
99 percent fat free bologna
99 per fat free chick, beeef and vegetable brother' as noodles, vegtalb,es, vary the mixture
turkey burgers,
sammies and quiznos has a turkey sammie.
baby food
jello
checking contents of fat in foods frozen and canned
pinto beas have zero fat12
I too am trying to develpe a non fat non diary menu for my mom if yu have iideas let me know _[removed]_. Laarning what one can have seems better than suffering from gall stone attacks, so I'm looking on the bright side.

I had my gall bladder out 10/28/08 - had every test in the book and all came back fine. No stones. The surgeon finally took it out cuz of my family history (every woman had it out by 40 - I turned 40 in June), my age, and I had just lost 20 lbs. I definitely feel better but am learning what not to eat. No spicy or greasy foods, no cheesy stuff, and I don't want anything to do with pizza! I have a lot of gas out of both ends, diarrhea comes and goes. I'm still glad I got my gall bladder out - I had intense pain all the time. Had to take a Vicodin just to get thru dinner. I keep Maalox in my desk drawer and at home nearby.

I just had my GB removed on 12 Dec 08 due to an excrutiating pain in the abdomen. After 3MRIs, 2Nuclear Med infusions, 1CAT Scan, 3 blood works. I am now experiencing constant stomach gurgling, gas bloating, and belching. As you stated above, i too have the worst smell in the restroom, and the constant urinating has got to be relieved!! I didnt have a choice for this operation and now wish i did. Ive looked up many sites only too see the negative effects. What is there that can help? or, WHO??

Wow, I feel sorry for the pain most of you have gone through. I had my gallbladder out maybe 7 years ago, and have never had problems. I eat clean, but I eat a steak almost every night of the week. I strength train and eat about 5 smaller meals through out the day. I feel very blessed after reading these posts.

i like the fact im not alone on this but i feel for everyone that has this problem and how horrible it is.

The bowel problems and diarrhea might be related to Candida problems. Try to find the book "The Missing Diagnosis" by Dr. Orion Truss from Birmingham, AL. He saved my husbands life. Go to a health food store or drug store and buy live cultures from the refrigerated section. Lactonex or some other kinds of acidophiles will help bowl problems. Candida is a yeast that we all have and it multiplies when we take antibiotics or birth control or eat too much sugar. I just started having gall bladder problems and am scheduled for an ultrasound Monday. I have had several attacks in the last 6 weeks. I am currently on a low fat diet and am managing it but I still feel pain in my upper right abdomen. What I read from others was very helpful. Thanks.
