If I wanna be sure my problems are caused by endometriosis, as my obstetrician and gynecologist doubt, what is the best way to find it out. What kinds of tests are confirmed as the best, until now?

Well, there are a number of tests a doctor could perform to try to find it out. There are imaging tests, they make ''picture'' of the inside of the body, which allows a doctor to locate endometriosis areas. Hereafter, ultrasound, machine that uses sound waves to make the picture, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), machine that uses magnetic and radio waves for the same. But the only way to confirm that for sure is laparoscopy. This is a surgery where tube with a light is placed inside the abdomen. The surgeon gradually checks each organ and sees if there is any a growth or tissue from endometriosis. This way is the most sure because it will not show just if there is uncommon kind of tissue then also it will show location, extent and size of that. All this can help in better treatment decisions.

I have endometriosis and was told the only way to see it is to go in and look. that there is no other way to find it. And just because you have it removed doesn't mean it won't come back. I now have a medtronic pump and it works great. I couldn't swallow, patch or shoot enough medication to get rid og the pain.

Endometreosis, Endmoetritis.....

I've had both for several years. At first, my gynocologist sluffed it off as nothing. I got a second opinion and furthermore a laparoscopy...to prove the results-- positive.

After 7 surgery's...lots of ultrasounds...etc. Things aren't getting any better.
Endo. can cause multiple problems with other organs including: irritable-bowel syndrome, sciatic hip disorder, pressure when urinating, pressure when having bowel movements....did you know that Endo. can spread to your lungs?!!

The symptoms go on for days. Some procedure's work for some...but not for others. There is no cure.......the closest is a hysterectomy. But, if Endo. causes other health problems.....a hysterectomy may not solve all of the problems caused by Endo.

A trick.....mysterious disease........

My heart goes out to all of the women with this mind-boggling epedemic!

I WAS TOLD TO GET PREGNANT TO ELIMINATE THE ENDOMETRIOSIS AND THEN GIVE MY CHILD UP FOR ADOPTION. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF THE ENDOMETRIOSIS. I AM IN MY FIRST STAGES. I AM CONFUSED. I HAVE READ ALL THE ARTICLES, AND NO ONE HAS MENTIONED THAT GETTING PREGNANT WAS EVER SUGGESTED TO THEM.
? ? ?
THANK YOU.

I was told the same thing at 22 years old. I just had my first daughter whom was not even 1 years old yet and after I thought I was healing from my C-Section I suddenly starting have more pains from my lower back to my abdominal wall....like a pulling sensation....so after my now 2nd or 3rd laparoscopy (semi "treatment" for Endo) the doctor said to me..."Honey, I hate to break it to you, but either get pregnant or get a hysterectomy Those are the only two cures I can suggest to you". And 7 years later....I am currently pregnant and pain free for another month...and hope that this baby beats my doctor at the C-section...otherwise the vicious cycle of pain will once again be a struggle.

Hi there Fran, I have suffered myself with Endometriosis since i was 18 im now 25 and have had 2 laparoscapys.

Firstly there are different stages of Endometriosis, mild, moderate and severe, without a laproscopy( camera into your stomatch to look at your ovarys, womb ect) you wont know what stage it is at.

I was really worried about my fertility as i have always wanted children and have been advised many times not to leave it until 30 to start a family- easier said then done!. I really want children but as having Endometriosis can make it very hard if not impossible to concieve naturaly, i think whoever told you to get pregnant is a cure, then they clearly know little about the problem.

There are ways to minimise the pain and to stop you from ovulating and having periods without taking such drastic action, and without damaging your fertility. There are pills, hormone tablets, the Deprovera injection ( which i am on and have been for the last 18 months) that can stop periods all together until your ready to start a family, and many more.

Having children is not a cure for Endometriosis as it can come back even after child birth. My advice to you is to get a second proffesional opinion, get as many as you can and i think you will find each doctor will tell you different ways of managing with it. Ask to be referred to a gnecologist, they are the only people who can go into detail and answer all your questions.

I find writing questions down to take with me helps, its easy to forget when your trying to take it all in! x

Ps. Be carefull about what you read on the internet as many sites about Endometriosis very are over the top.

I hope this helps Sarah xx

Getting pregnant will not get rid of it. In fact trying to get pregnant will be hard. I was diagnosed with endometrieosis today and am also on fertility drugs.

I have had endometriosis for years.
I had a partial hysterectomy in 1997.
Then had my overies removed in 2003 cause the cells were growing on my bowels which made everyday intolerable after a bowel move. Now six years have passed and I am Having pain in my gut, back, pelvic area and I'm afraid it has spread to my lungs. Will a surgeon do another surgery and remove more endo cells? And, should I look forward to this pain in another 5 years?Code:

Wow everyone here has had a lot of misinformation.....you need to talk to your doctors. Endometreosis once removed does not grow back. It may develope in other places though. You can have endometreosis on your intestines as well which can cause a lot of problems that most people generally associate with irritable bowel. I have had one surgery to remove endometreosis and it did help a lot, I do have to have another surgery though because my doctor did not look at my intestines. Getting pregnant and giving ur baby up for adoption is not a logical option. I dont know who told you that, but they werent the brightest crayon in the box. Yes having a child can help with any hormonal imbalances caused by endometreosis but so can surgery. Removing the endomtreosis in a laporoscopy is the best option. For some people taking birth control helps a lot with the symptoms. Also with the endometreosis it can sometimes make you unfertile. I had unsuccessfully tried to get pregnant for years and within 3 weeks of my surgery I was pregnant. not on purpose! Consult with your doctor if you confused and if you dont agree with them then ask another doctor. Get as many opinions as you need before making a decision on what is your best option.
