I have a 4 year old daughter who was born at 28 weeks gestation. She is on Movicol for chronic constipation. She has suffered since birth from recurrent pneumonia - normally in the winter months. After the last admission to hospital in January she was put on Cephalexin prophylactically 4.5mls daily. Since then, she has complained of stomachache daily and her Consultant has advised her to come off Cephalexin and go on a twice daily dose of Co-Amoxiclav until end April. Is this less likely to cause stomach problems than Cephalexin? Are there other side-effects of proplonged use of Co-Amoxiclav and why does she have to be on 10ml a day if it is prophylactic? Since she has been out of hospital and on the Cephalexin she has kicked-off 2 colds without needing further antibiotics and she is gaining weight and able to run around and attend school without coughing so the use of antibiotics per se is obviously having a huge positive impact on her well-being and development in general. However, I am concerned - as outlined above.
