Wow I wish I had an answer for you, and myself too. I have quit for 3 mos. and am having more anxiety now?? I have found that eating regularly and exercising a lot has helped. It seems like I have way too much energy at times but am really tired at other times. Too Weird. is it some sort of minor mental problem we had before that smoking helped alleviate?

Hi everyone!
All I can say is OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
I cant believe what I am reading and to think I've been thinking I'm going crazy !
I gave up smoking coldturkey (after 15 years/pack a day) only a week ago and I have since had MAJOR panic attacks , chest pain, nausea, hot/cold chills, indigestion, burping......and then throw in a dose of depression.....
I feel like I'm going mad - or like there must be some other "disease" like cancer or something making me feel this way.
In this last week, I've been to ER thinking I was having a heart attack, they did every test you could think of and nothing showed up, and I went and had full bloods done AGAIN because I don't believe there's nothing wrong!- this coming week I'm booked to have a gastroscopy and colonoscopy - just to put my mind at rest that I am NOT dying from some other disease-
The worse thing, is googling all the symptoms I have has led me to believe that I have some other malignant disease like cancer or something when in fact it may just be what you all describe "WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS"
I only happened across this page by accident- I really wish the "Quit Smoking" sites would tell us that we can experience these symptoms , that would have given me some relief that it' snot all in my mind and I'm not going "crackers" - all they mention are the "benefits" of quitting and not the reality that it is in fact a really HARD WORK to achieve.
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed here- I'm hoping after my results from the Bloods and the gastroscopy/colonoscopy this week, I'll get the message that I AM OK, this is just a normal part of quitting this disgustingly addictive habit and this will inspire me to continue the detox from my body and continue forward to a healthy life!
Best regards
Jewelzy

Thank you. I'm 12 weeks free of a 37 year pack and a quarter/day addiction. I feel my best after drinking a lot of water. But in general, I'm still feeling awful. It's nice to know that feeling better is often a longer process than 12 weeks. I must stay patient.

Thank you for your intelligently written post. I am just 12 weeks smoke free after 37 years of smoking a pack a day. I am really glad to hear of acid....indigestion issues with so many who gave up nicotine. My guts are messed up almost every day. Patience, patience and patience.

Drink nothing but water. I cut out coffee which really helped. Once my stomach got back to normal, I slowly introduced other liquids but not over doing it. 17 months now. Feels great not to have to worry when or where I can have a cig.

Jewelry- wait until you hit the one year mark!! I know that seems like an eternity right now but at one year it's like a switch is thrown and homeostasis is achieved. I had read about the one year mark but didn't understand until I got there. You actually feel it in your body that something good has been restored. It's been 17 months for me now and I can't wait until my 2 year mark!! FYI- it's actually all the chemicals in cigarettes that cause the withdrawal sickness. But do hang in there and you will reap the rewards!! FYI- I smoked for 40 years. Unnnnnbelievable!!

Update -11months in. Been doing good with no urge to smoke. I cant believe I smelled like that. Gross! lol. I still get anxiety from time 2 time and sometimes the weird breathing thing of trying to force myself to take deep breath but besides that its getting better like most have said. I'm hoping everybody is hanging in there. It does get better.

Iqbal 3 years and 4 months is a very long time for the symptoms to disappear but I think just in my stupid opinion that these symptoms will remain there and might fade away a bit. I hope you don't go back to smoking again but if u ever go back and these symptoms go away do share your experience

Try Dmso it dissolves the tar on your throat then spray on Colloidal Silver throat spray 30 ppm...use that for awhile and pray then see what happen. I started smoking when I was 15 yrs old and I'll be 70 yrs young in two weeks and what I told you to use I use and I don't have any problems so far. You can find this at your health food store. Good Luck!

Hi no problem. We are all in this together. Anything that can help others cope is great. It has helped me. 1 year in and I still get the anxiety. Its been the worse of the quit and I never had anxiety when I smoked.
