Hello
i am really worried about my hemorrhoid
i went in last week to the doctor and had one hemo removed, 2 days later there was another one that appeared closer to the anus and that also had to be remove.d now its 5 days later, im still in alot of pain and constantly have to sit in warm water.
i am taking percocet and ibuprofen, stool softeners, eating alot of fiber and whole grain, and it is still so unpleasent to go stool
i took a photo to see what it looked like, the swelling went down, but it looks like my anus is almost closed up and a piece of skin removed from a bump on the left side.
i dont know what to do anymore, i am in alot of pain, shouldnt it heal by now? when is stooling suppose to feel better?
if it still hurts does this mean i might have to get another one removed to get the swelling down?

Takes a few weeks to be completely ok. I had my op. Just a little over a month, you really need to relax when you go to the toilet and focus on what you are trying to achieve "focus and relax" it will get better. If you feel like you need toilet go straight away. Be gentle on yourself. Drink kiwifruit juice, it tastes good keep it in the fridge. Try to avoid gassy foods like onion too much garlic, beans etc. NO hot sauces or too much pepper it really burns on the way out! No white bread etc. I am so glad I had it done.

Okay - it took three pretty painful weeks to recover, but i am in my third trimester, so there is a lot of pressure when i'm upright and baby was kicking at it when i was lying down. My dad just had the banding surgery this week and he was feeling great basically in two days (bleeding but feeling okay). I hope this helps someone else who has to go through here. It was helpful to me to read the real experiences here and get a realistic timetable for recovery etc...

I had my surgery on 1st Of December 2011 you probably seen the earlier post...
So its nearly 5 months now and everything feel great... I never felt so "normal" in the past 3 years now... you can go have a BM anytime you want ... I know it sounds crazy but that's how my life been past 3 years where you have to plan your BM as your day can be ruined if you decide to visit the toilet during the day.
Before undergoing the surgery my doctor honestly told me that its not going to be a walk in the park and that the pain is going to be there for at least 3 weeks and it will become all normal after 8 weeks and that's exactly how it was.

Around a month ago I started bleeding again not as heavy as before but more frequently, not sure what happen there but it went away after week or so. I still get some very minor bleeding with BM but I think it will go away with time.
This place and people who posted their experiences were a great help... in a moments when you think that world is about to end for you it really help to know that what you going through is nothing unique and others are going through or been through it just like you are at that moment. So think of the better days and how your life will improve when everything is healed!

LIfeIsGood-- great to hear everything is looking up for you. I'm only finishing up day 11 now, and still in a little pain, but I already feel liberated from the chains of my hemorrhoids. It's great to read all the different experiences of people who have shared my pain. You guys and gals have definitely made the recovery process a lot more tolerable. My surgeon doesn't know it, but he should thank this forum too because without it I would have called up his office at all hours of the day and night freaking out over the pain, the urine retention, and everything else that I would have worried about had I not known that all these symptoms are normal.

Hi everyone, I had my haemorrhoidectomy 3 weeks ago, I really thought I would improve sooner.  I have never experienced pain like it, only in childbirth (a long time ago) at least you had a baby at the end of it.  I thought there was something wrong with my slow recovery, but from reading this forum I realise it takes time.  I thank you all for the tips.  Im supposed to return to work soon, but if I carry on like this I cannot see it happening.  Im frightened to leave the house or be away from my bathroom.  Some days I do not want to eat at all but when I do it is healthy, very light, small meals, taking pain killers, drinking prune juice, bowel softners etc.,  Constipation & pain is a continuous battle & BM is hell. I am so pleased to read of people out there who are steadily recovering, all in my thoughts.

Hi Everyone, It is now day 15 since my haemorrhoidectomy, and your posts have been so reasurring to me that I am not alone in this. It has been the worst time of my life. Some days I feel like I am on the mend, and then the next day (like today) the pain is constant all day, and I wonder if I am ever going to be normal again. I was supposed to go back to work yesterday, but have put it off for at least another week, and wonder if even then I will manage. As Neveragain has said, I am scared to be away from my bathroom in case I need to have a BM. They come with such urgency that I have to run to the bathroom to make it in time. The pain afterwards lasts for 5-6 hours and is such a severe, dull internal pain, that I can't describe, but not unlike childbirth, which I have been through 4 times. I have at least 4 BMs a day, even though I have cut out all the laxatives, and it is usually the final one that tips my pain threshold over the edge. Pain killers don't help and I have been reluctant to take anything with codeine in it anyway. Heat is the only thing that helps it - a hot shower, sitz bath, or sitting on a hot water bottle over an inflatable ring cushion. I had the surgery as a last resort as I was getting daily bleeding and pain with my 'roids, but I am wondering if the cure is worse than the disease. I was so active and busy before all this, and now I am so depressed wondering if I will ever feel painfree and confident again. I am glad you are all recovering and hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel for me too. Best wishes.

It took me three full weeks of bedrest, but things healed up satisfactorily. My dad had the banding done when i was just at the end of recovery, and his recovery was only three days! I hope i never have to have this again! But if i do i will ask for banding instead...

Okay, I am a 18 year old girl, and I was diagnosed with Crohns disease a year ago and I have a couple hemorrhoids. However there is one external one that seems to be about to size of a pea, and after reading all of these comments I am truly terrified of getting it removed. It doesn't seem to be causing too many problems... but I don't want to get to the stage to where it starts causing problems. What should I do? I need advice, what's worse, it getting too big, or the surgery?

If it's not bugging you, it's probably not thrombosed. Get some anusol plus and get rid of it! If this is a recurring problem, citrus bioflavonoids with a vitamin C can help prevent more hemorrhoids...

I'm just into the third week after surgery and my bms are similar to the bad one you described. Actually that's when I can actually pass any stool at all. I am miserable

I just had surgery 8 days ago. I didn't do any research because the doctor told me that I probably wouldn't feel a thing after 3 days max. Minor surgery he told me. First I had 5 days of extreme pain with very little sleep in spite of plenty of painkillers (ibuprofen and paracetamol). Probably because of the painkillers i got constipated and haven't had a reel bm for almost 8 days now.

The past 3 days I've gotten so sick when I eat any food that I just no longer eat. I just drink 1-3 glasses of proon juice a day.

Around day 5 I really started noticing the bad smell but didn't do anything. Day 6 I had a very sore throat and my right ear was sore so I went to the ER. Diagnosis: staff infection in the surgery wound, strep throat and a staff infection in the right ear. I've been taking penicillin since that.

The worst part is that the doctor misplaced the rubber banding and only cut the roid in half. Before I had an internal roid that had to be pushed in after bm. Now I have an external that can't be pushed in.

I am 24 years old. I don't drink or smoke and i excercise 4-6 times a week and am just overall very healthy. My point is: there are so many complications with this type of surgery and infection is definitely one of them no matter if you're young and healthy or if you are already weakened by other factors.

I had surgery for one internal and one external 'roid two days ago. I lived w/ the 'roids for six years, had flare ups on and off but used rx cream/suppositories to keep in check. At the end of May, I had a flare up that wouldn't go away, it was painful hours after having BM and so uncomfortable so I decided it was time to have the surgery.

I read previous postings and stocked up on supplies and prepared for the pain.  I also had about three weeks before the surgery so I dramatically changed my diet (fiber one cereal and bars, lots of water, salad, stool softners, ensure to keep up my strength and no red meat).  When I came home from surgery, I was numb and kept taking percocet every 2-3 hours to keep ahead of the impending pain, the day after surgery I continued with the percocet every 3-4 hours as well as motrin  600 mg every 6 hours.  I have eaten only fiber foods - fiber one cereal & bars, salad, a 1/2 cup of chicken breast, scrambled eggs, water, water, water, apple, canned fruit and a few crackers to help w/ nausea from motrin.  I felt no pain, so I stopped taking percocet (about 36 hours after surgery).  I was also soaking in hot tub for 15 minutes twice daily.  I was walking around and feeling fine but no bowel movements.

My first bowel movement came 2 days after surgery with the help of some milk of magnesia - I didn't force it and it was fine. No pain, afterwards I soaked in sitz bath to cleanse and the tub. I was able to walk around after.  My second BM came a few hours after the first - it was more uncomfortable but fine. I used sitz bath and soaked in tub again.  I haven't used any percocet - just sticking to motrin.  My BM are nothing compared to the ones I had before the surgery - where I would be in pain for hours and then uncomfortable for rest of day.  I'm not sure what to expect in the future but I have taken three weeks off from work and my folks are here to help w/ my kids.

I'm surprised at the lack of pain but compared to the 'roids, this is OK. I think the change in diet before surgery has also prepared me for the after surgery diet.  Time will tell.
