It will depend for some it takes 2-3 weeks to months. you won't have a set time or day till your PCP or Surgeon gives you one. It will come down to full damage done everyone will never have the same time frame. Look up (CNC) , and if you think it might work for you talk with your doctor. I have a bit of information that might be useful. Good Luck
i am 66 years old and 2 months after lumbar disc laminectomy and fusion surgery, can i drive long haul for 8 hours or more safely?
I have my l5 s1 fusion on 07/12/17. Went to the emergency room a week later due to bad reaction to meds. 6 weeks later, my incision got infected. My back still hurts after sitting or walking more than half hour and my leg still goes numb. My Dr said it is because of my sensitivity to pain meds that it takes longer for me to heal. I am going almost 2 months and getting really frustrated. My job requires sitting for 8 hours and this pain will not help when I go back to work. Anyone else having the same problem?
hey, how do you feel now? I have slipped disc L5-s1 which is prssing on my spinal cord about 30% last year I was in incredible pain, pins and needles i couldnt walk, i had numbness but i did lots of rehabilitation and exercises and it has got better., however in February I had my MRI which showed no improvement,. I do feel better i sometimes have days when I cannot walk, tension in my back, sharp pain but i can stand it. The doctor said , i will not be able to carry a baby with this condition ,so soon or later it will hav to be done. I dont know if I should wait until it gets worst or should I do it now. No one can guarantee how its gonna be and im scared. I go to the gym I dance latin dance and im worried.
Pain meds can do this
I am 6 weeks post op L5-S1 Fusion with cage and graft. I had no pain after week 1. Driving at week 2. Walking 1.5-2 miles a day now. Stay positive and keep walking it helps a lot!
I am 4 months post op S1 fusion. I am in physical therapy, using the pool. I still have many problems. Is there any hope?
Were you able to walk with the level of pain you were experiencing?
I get severe pain in my right butt and hip, even walking a short distance - a few yards!

Two weeks after I had a back fusion L5-S1 I started feeling numbness in my fingers, which is now affecting my arm & hand. At night, I have bad pain in my hands. Could this be caused by my fusion?
I had my surgery in April of last year. L5-S1. Due to some allergic reaction to some medication, I ended up staying in the hospital with a rash all over my body for a whole week. After I got home. It was tough for the next few weeks. But with physical therapy, it seemed like it got better. But in the last few months, I am almost at the point where it was shortly after my surgery. My pain in the area where I had the surgery done is getting worse by the day. I contacted my doctor and I am supposed to have an MRI done. I hope They won't have to remove the hardware.
Yes, but you have lost some movement because of the fusion that you would normally have had before if you had no issues. A fusion essentially removes a joint in your vertebra that is essential for movement. I have had fusions in my cervical -- yes I am better with it from a movement standpoint prior to the surgery but I still have a little less flexibility than when I had no issues. The more fusions the more limits on flexibility.
