I have the same issue. I'm 28 year old female and this has plagued me for years. Sometimes it's years without it happening, and then last night was the second time in 2 weeks.
I'm thinking of trying hypnosis. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I wet the bed every once in a while when I was a kid, no big deal. But I'm 28 now, and the last four years, I have started to wet the bed. The dream about peeing in the toilet but waking up and realizing I'm peeing in the bed. It's been devastating every time, but worse the last six months. It's happening 1-2 times a week. My fiance is very understanding, but I can tell she's getting sick of waking up in a wet bed. The day after I wet our bed, I don't know if I'm nervous or what, but I sometimes wet my pants. It is humiliating when it happens in public. That's only happened 2 or 3 times this past six months and maybe 7 or 8 in the last four years, but it's enough. And it's getting worse. I don't know what's wrong with me...I don't want to end up in diapers, but I'm on the verge of starting to wear them at night. The fiance is asking me to, and I don't feel like I can say no. It's gotta suck just as bad to wake up wet for her as it is me. I feel like a baby, but there's nothing I can do. I'm embarrassed to ask a doctor, but I gotta be an adult. Damn, any suggestions?

I'm sorry to the last guy; my husband occasionally wets his pants and it's no big deal. If he was wetting the bed enough, I would encourage him to wear a diaper. It should be no big deal, it wouldn't bother me!

Okay, same exact thing for me...Dreaming I'm on the toilet and waking up soaked. I am 30 and it seems to more frequent these days.
From all of my studies, I think it has to do with food allergies. Does anyone have gastro-intestinal issues? Food sensitivities...bloating, constipation, etc?

I have had the same problem only once before, age 16 (as I am now). It was horribly embarassing. I was at a friend's house, I dreamed about whizzing in the urinal, and the next thing I knew, I was lying in my sleeping bag on a piss-stained inflatable mattress. I did a good job of cleaning it up, but nonetheless most times I go now, I get the same feeling of wetting myself. In my case, I think it had to do with how much I drank before bed without having a wee first. I was a bed-wetter as a child and took a nasal medication until it stopped. To this day, I limit the amount I drink before bed and make sure to pee before I hit the hay.

I never wet the bed as a kid, but I have woke up from "the dream" three times recently and had to wash up in the middle of the night! I have just discovered that I am insulin resistant and have sleep apnea.

the dream is hilarious usually i tell myself hey you are dreaming or even pinch myself to make sure im awake but the times are few and far between usually im extremely tired . i think i remember learning in psychology that if you are to tired your brain tries to keep you asleep sort of like when your alarm goes off and you dream its the phone ringing and if you feel your bladder hurting in your dream its because one part knows you are in bed the other says you need sleep conflict of interest go figure

I found this because I was a bit worried about my wife, but maybe it's okay....let me start by saying she has always seemd to have great bladder control, she has barely ever been urgent to go. But she woke up with the flu last night and was soaked - she went to go puke and I noticed the wet bed. At first I thought it was sweat, but I smelled it and it was pee. I changed the sheets, put a towel down, etc. She came back to bed, and I asked her if she had an accident. She said yes and started to cry a bit. I was SUPER understanding (I promise) and helped her change her PJs. She told me she dreamt she was on the toilet and didn't wake up until she was done, and that she had that dream every once in a while until she was maybe 15, but hadn't had it since (she's 27). I was shocked, cause like I said, she's always had great control. Well, now it's 3 PM, and she has wet herself 6 times since. She's been dozing off, being sick and all, and she keeps waking up wet. She's devastated, and she keeps having the dream. I keep telling her it's okay, but I thought I'd check on the net. Interesting...my only question is, do I go out and get depends?? I don't want to embarrass her, but she's peed on the bed, the couch, etc. I don't want our house to smell like a nursing home!! hmmm...maybe i'll talk to her.

It seems apparent that we are in REM, dreaming of having to use the bathroom, only to wake up having already gone in the bed. I thought I was alone in this, but after reading these posts, I'm even more fascinated as to why this happens. Our bodies are obviously communicating to us, through REM, that we have to go to the bathroom, but because REM is the deepest form of sleep, we're unable to wake up. This dream/bed wetting happens to me when I drink a cup of water 2 hrs. before I go to bed, so maybe if you try to eliminate drinking anything 3 hrs. before bed, it might not happen.

I just did the same thing last night! I have never wet the bed (that I can remember). It was so weird! I am also home visiting my mom, and mildly stressed from school and Christmas busyness. Someone mentioned gastro-intestinal issues...I have constipation, IBS, and have had a kidney stone in the past. I am also getting married soon (I'm 21). I was also dreaming that I was on the toilet. While this might sound terribly morbid, I have a fear of dead bodies and for some reason, there was a dead body in my dream. Right now I'm trying to self-diagnose and the only thing I can figure is:
1. I was in a deep sleep and couldn't wake up.
2. I was scared of the dead body.
3. Kidney/Intestinal Issues
4. I am in a different place than normal, ie. travel.
5. I drink water before I go to bed sometimes.
6. I have very vivid dreams all the time.
I think all these things together could have triggered it. All I know is I hope it never happens again! Sorry I couldn't answer anyone's questions...but you did help me figure out what could have been the cause of my episode!

No one really answered my question about my wife on 12/21, but she is still wetting the bed about 3 times a week. She has the dream, and can't help it. In the last three nights, I have finally gotten her to wear a diaper to bed. She is really embarrassed, but I keep telling her it's fine with me. She has opened up and told me that she frequently had daytime and nighttime accidents when she was a little girl, until she was about 15. I think the flu she had got her body back in this same habit; she obviously has a lot worse bladder control than she did before. She has had a couple huge daytime accidents in the last 3 weeks and quite a few small ones. I catch her doing the 'potty dance' every other day or so. One of her huge daytime accidents was at work today. She called me at my job sobbing that she wet herself and everyone knew. I left and picked her up and took her home for the day. On the way home she started squirming; I asked her if she had to go potty, she said yeah, so I found the nearest gas station but she had a bit of an accident before she made it.
I am really thinking she needs daytime protection, but I don't want to treat her like a baby. But I'll do what I have to do. Good night.

I'm very familiar with "the dream." Now, anytime I do go to the bathroom in the middle of the night I make sure to touch the toilet and feel the cold of it, to ensure that I really am awake and in the bathroom. It's become such a habit that it's now part of the dream. So if I have the dream and don't feel the cold of the toilet, then I can recognize that it is a dream and wake up.

I am soooo relieved that i'm not the only one with this problem. I am 29 and married and this happens to me every few years. Sometimes more often, but every time I need to pee badly and dream i'm sitting in the toilet, and then wake with hot pee trickling down my butt! Luckily for me most times i wake up when i just start to pee, so the bed is only slightly wet. This is so embarrassing and i've never told my husband. I just pretend all is normal and then put a towel on the spot, usually its dry in the morning and i simply find a reason to change the sheets. It has gotten to the point where sometimes i'm wide awake and sitting on the toilet and i get the feeling that i'm in bed dreaming, i have to pinch myself to make sure i'm awake. I've noticed lately that whenever i have the dream i wake up to make sure i'm really sitting on a toilet but i know its' only a matter of time till i wet myself again. I try to be conscious of my surroundings when i'm on the toilet hoping that this will help me differentiate between the dream. I also try to make sure i use the toilet before i fall asleep and this has almost become an obsession because i will get up sometimes 5 times in the 10 minutes it takes to fall asleep! Otherwise i've googled this and seen a suggestion to set your alarm to wake at various times in the night to make sure you get up to pee, this has been helping as well. I know however that this problem will always be lurking around the corner and i am terrified that the next time it happens i'll be sleeping out in a strange bed!

Hello,
I am 47 and this happened to me for the first time a year ago and then again last night. I have the same experience as the majority of the posters on this board . . . the dream thing. I always wake up mid-stream as well. I don't have any other symptoms of diabetes and I doubt everyone on this board has that, and I also do not see a correlation to insulin resistance? Frequent urination, from what I understand, is a symptom of diabetes and it comes from the body producing too much sugar. Well, I do not have a urination problem otherwise. I do drink quite a bit of liquid every night before bed (I take really hot baths and dehydrate myself), and have the dream frequently, but usually wake up in time. Also, I take a sleep aid. Last night, I took the sleep aid and was very exhausted, so I suspect that may have something to do with it. Has anyone seen a DR? I think I would if it was happening alot.
