Hi, so I am a 25 year old female, nursing student and constantly stressed out.  Here is what's happened to me, and here is my theory.

Firstly, I'll start off my saying that I had really rare accidents as a child; only one or two times while sleeping.  I probably hadn't had any accidents since the age of 4.  Now I have had two nighttime incidents in the last 4 or 5 months.

The first time, I was dreaming about having a baby.  This makes sense because I was taking a Maternal Health nursing class at the time.  I had seen 2 babies be born and I was pretty much obsessing over babies.  During my dream I was "pushing" to have the baby, and I urinated and wet the bed at the same time.  I really thought that this was hilarious.  I laughed it off, I even told my boyfriend about it, he laughed too, everything was fine.

This last time just happened last night.  And my dream was the same as everyone else's on here, but with one variation:  I was studying in my dream (I am literally always studying now-a-days) and that's when I got up to use the bathroom.  Started to go, and I woke up startled and mid-pee, and was able to go and finish in the bathroom.  Now, I think that it is also important to note here that I woke up about an hour earlier and I did really have to go to the bathroom, but I just rolled over and tried to fall back asleep because I was exhausted.

But regardless, I am now concerned about this.  I don't want this to be a reoccurring thing.  And I really am not sure how to stop it, I really think that only time will tell if anything changes.

I think that the small bladder things is a load of c**p.  I have the smallest bladder on the face of the earth, and everyone who knows me will tell you that.  I always drink water before going to bed and that was not the first time that I have woken up really having to use the bathroom, but just decided to roll over and try to sleep a little longer instead.  Now why in 25 years of life am I starting to wet the bed?  Whats different?  My bladder is just as small as it always is, I barely drink any alcohol now that I am always busy, and not even in my drunkest night in undergrad did I ever wet the bed.

My only conclusion is stress.  Every individual situation is different, and it's not accurate to say that this could be the reason for everyone, but I am pretty certain that this is the reason for me.  I have been stressed in school, moreso than I ever have been in my life.  I have been in my relationship for over 5 years now, and it has been really long distance for about a year or so now.  This puts strain on us, we fight more and we had gotten into a fight last night.

This is my conclusion, although I have no clue what to do to stop it.  Maybe I have to make some changes.  Even though little things like drinking water before bed never used to affect me, maybe I need to not drink water before bed anymore and make sure that I have used the bathroom before going to sleep, and also make sure that I get my lazy but outta bed in the morning when I have to pee instead of rolling over to get more sleep.

I hope that this has helped anyone.  It's good thought to come on here and see that you are not alone.

I also have "that" dream when you finally find a toilet or some other dream and you wake up cold and wet.If it was every night you could take precautions.

Hi.  I'm 28ys. old and used to wet the bed alot as a child  Now, I wet every once in awhile.  But evertime, without fail, it happens because of the "toilet" dream.  It could be a toilet,a lake, the tub, a pool...pretty much anywhere where ther's water and it wld make sense for me to pee. It always gets me.  Now I'm at thr point where I actually look around and touch something in my dreams to make sure it's real(turns out it never is) and after doing the careful check I proceed to "go", only to find out I emptied my bladder in the bed.  I've never seen a doc fo it.  Still a little embarrassed.  It is ver annoying tho, especially on cold nights.

its horrible the way your wife is treating you. you say she is alright about it but really when treating you the way she does it means she is not ok with it.

After reading some of the replies on bed wetting, I feel relief(No pun intended).to read about how this has happened to many others.  I have been so unhappy that I was fearing this embarassing situation occurring again.  This happened to me when I was around 17 years old.  I had a dream that I was in the lavatory at my high school and was peeing in one of the school stalls.  The next morning I woke up and my bed and sheets were all wet.  I was in shock and I did not want to tell my mother because she was a critical kind of person and I was afraid she would blab it to everyone till the day I die so I kept it a secret. story.. I think I just waited till the next laundry wash and gave them to her to wash.  This episode has caused me so much social anxiety during my now single status that I have avoided social situations like sleep overs or vacations with friends and even family for fear it  could haunt me and happen again.    The embarassment would be mortifying ..Only this happened 40 years ago and I am still plagued with the fear until I read this site. Secrets can be killers so I feel free now telling my story.. I agree with someone where I read that I believe I was in REM and had to go and well coincidently there you have it ....I peed! Only in the bed which in my mind was the lavatory toilet.  Thanks and gratitude to all of you for sharing .....I am not going to let this pee pee experience  keep me  from enjoying my life.... and don't let it hurt or take away from your life as well.

I am 32 yrs old-Female I was also a bed wetter into school age. Just happened again last night. If I remember correctly, in my late twenties,21, 17. Always a single episode. I have had no children. I'm healthy. I'm also a very deep sleeper. I very rarely remember having a dream. On these rare episodes I do remember the feeling of having a dream where I was going to the bathroom. I believed I mentioned it to my doctor once and didn't have much to say. I figured it was just a rare instance and then it happened again. Until this I hadn't found anyone else with same issue. Relieved but still a bit baffled.

I have had the same problem as everyone else... I was able to control and wake myself up before I started to wet the bed... it was always the same dream, going to use the restroom... the only time I have ever had the problem was way too much alcohol consumption when I was under age... then again this morning... I am 22 years old and it just happened. I have no idea what made it happen. The only thing that i can think of is that I had a fight with my boyfriend last night. As soon as I felt myself start to urinate I got up and ran to the bathroom but I got the blanket wet so when I came back I changed and I proceeded to "accidently spill water on the bed". I woke my boyfriend up and told him the blanket needed to be washed cause I spilt a lot of water so I couldn't go back to sleep... I guess the main thing that I am afraid of is that it might happen again. This is the first when I was sober and I am afraid

Do you think it is the 'dreaded' dream,or do you 'wet' and the dream just comes in to make it seem normal?

i'm a 23 yr old female and yes.. i'm transforming into a bed wetter..

i'm not sure if i used to wet the bed as a child but i know that it didn't happen till last year when i had to move to UK with my fiance.
Yes, there is a stress factor.. yes i have the "peeing in the toilet" dream but what's special about these dreams is that usually i'm in the presence of one of my close relatives or close friends (during the dream).. usually, after i find the toilet i can't pee just like that, i have to push... in most cases it's then i wake up to find that i'm either soaking wet or i barely let a few drops leak... sometimes, in the dream i "see" or feel that in fact, when i'm pushing, i'm eliminating sand... i find it very weird and disturbing..

since i moved in UK, i've had this happen about 7-8 times.. and i've told my fiance about them cause sometimes i would wake up and move around the room trying to change/cover the spot as soon as possible but he would wake up and ask what's happening..

it makes me really sad to see that others have partners which understand and are ok with this but, it's a whole different story with mine.. he makes fun of me and brings me down everytime.. and if his day didn't turn out right, he will keep repeating it as being part of his list of "what went wrong today"... he doesn't go as far as telling anyone about it but, when we fight he does threaten me that he'll post it on his facebook and he'll publicly humiliate me even though the fight is not even close to being about that...

and we're supposed to get married in 10 days..

i feel like crying because it scares me.. the bed wetting i mean. worse part is that i don't afford to go to a doctor and i don't have a GP.. i'm unemployed and even better, i don't even have the right to work in the UK.

also, a few things more:

since i moved to UK i noticed that my pee has changed its smell and is absolutely awful now. So when my peeing problem comes in, i really have to throw away my undies/pants because the smell will not go away. i'm not eating any of the things that change the smell of your pee.. so it's very strange.

i've had a bad back for the past couple of years (4-5).. after the weekly housecleaning i feel like dying as i've got pain radiating from my lower back.. sometimes it doesn't really hurt as bad, but i feel that if i bend over to pick something up or if i have to carry something i'm gonna be stuck in that position..

i'm not really writing this in order to get answers, but more because i need to empty my heart since i've left all my friends in my home-country and we just can't seem to get hold of eachother anymore.

Oh, another thing, in all this time since we've been here we've lived in shared houses.. so the embarrassment is double..

I have another possible theory. Lets assume that urination isn't the main issue at all but instead is a symptom. Do any of you have sleep disorders of any kind? Sleep Apnea? Night Terrors? Have you grown up or lived in a household where serenity & comfort were overshadowed by distracting noises or intrusion? What I'm getting at is that this might be burdening side effect of a learned behavior. Have you ever lived around a train or known someone who has and wondered how they were able to even sleep with all that racket and wall vibrations? MY theory is that perhaps you have been sleep deprived in your life forcing you to learn to ignore normal distractions whether internal or external. Bathroom related dreams are extremely common and most of the time they aid in waking us up to what we gotta too. Ignoring distractions in order to get the sleep we desperately need could be viewed as a sort of defense mechanism, a way to adapt. It would not always lead to urination, since several factors would need to be combine. Prior Sleep deprivation, an extremely full bladder, and it may also depend on what sleep stage you are in at the time. There are certain prescription drugs that could contribute to this problem as well.
