i had your same condition when i was younger. i played tennis and realized that most of the spots were under my clothes or on chest. when i went to the doctor she told us that the only way to get rid of it was to lay out in the sun or go to a tanning bed. i had previously tried every ointment cream etc, to get rid of the flaky spots and it didnt work. like you said, its a minor problem but i didnt like the look of them! i never had them except during the winter months. the doctor did have a name for this problem but unfortunately i cannot remember exactly what it was and have been searching for the name.it was strange to her that i needed light rays because i took vitamin D and other vitamins but she said that didnt matter and it only occured with a small percent of ppl. i now go to the tanning bed during the winter and havent had them since! sometimes i'll start to see one spot come up and the next day i rush to tan and its gone :). good luck!

This Is my second year of having this. They begin on my legs on my shins ans calvs. Last year there were a few n my back and moved to my forearms. I went to the doc a few times but they didnt know what it was so I began going to a tanning salon. If they were going to stay then a tan would help hide them..... Funny thing is they dissappeared completel after a week of tanning and havent returned till Now almost Christmas. I dont know what it is but think it might have something to do with sun exposure and possibly vitamin D that you would normally get from the sun.

I started getting these weird little circle rashes about 10 years ago.  It happened the very first time with huge circles that were extremely itchy after I had been running through the woods.  I took benedril and it cleared up.  Every winter after that first time I got the circles.  The sun always clears them up though!  They come and go as they please, sometimes they are itchy and sometimes not.  It looks like ring worm but it IS NOT.  I went to a dermatologist and he had a dozen others look at it as well.  I even had a biopsy.  They decided that it was Hay Wells Syndrome...if you look it up it's not pretty....I don't have a single symptom so I think they couldn't figure it out so they gave me some rare disorder, the weird part is it is usually diagnosed in children....I hope someone else finds out.

In winter huh? It sounds like a reaction to wool (or other material) in sweaters and such. Even if you did not have a reaction in the past, you could have developed a sensitivity later.

Hello all! I am a nurse practitioner student an I came across this rash while studying pathophysiology last winter. It stuck out in my mind because I too have gotten this rash twice in the winter, and was distressed by it. My nurse practitioner thought that it was ringworm and told me to use over-the-counter antifungal cream. I did this, which made the lesions burn intensely but did not make them go away. Eventually, as described above, they resolved on their own in May.
For those of you who are reading this and develop a circular rash in the winter months (if you live in a cold and dryish climate) on the trunk or arms (the rash should spare areas of this skin that are exposed to sunlight including the face and hands), which usually starts as one lesion 2-8 cm in diameter, pink to reddish in color (if you have white skin), with usually a well defined border and a normal skin looking center, that itches, and eventually becomes larger while other lesions begin appearing, this rash is called pityriasis rosea and is self-limiting, not harmful, and not contagious. Treatments include UV light, so yes, a 10 minute session in the tanning booth should help, and hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching. Rash usually goes away on it's own in 2-8 weeks but can last for up to 6 months. Now you can all go and teach your pracitioners and dermatologists a little something.

Hey all,

I currently suffer from the same rash, Only happens in the winter months and gone by may, Its due to stress and the nerv system under the skin.

However my is worse as its on the face, its starts of as large joint lumps once that has reslove the same round/ oval circles develop -.

I have been dealing with this for 5 years now and they used to last for 3 months plus and the derematologist still has no idea what it is!! However i do have a solution  that has helped me get rid of these lumps in a week or so

3 main process -

1 Inner health

2 skin care line

3 medical treament

1 Inner health

First thing First you NEED to have some Pure Australian EMU Oil - Its a natual anti imflamatory that carms the skin down, it also puts the lipo fatty acids back in the underlayer of the skin It really really helps Soothe and reduce inflammation associated with acne, dermatitis, eczema psoriasis and chapped skin it Moisturise dry, flaky or chapped skin.

I get 3 bottles for £10 on ebay and they last about 2 years put it on at night time around 2-3am as thats when the skin is most open. you will see great results/  also use in the bath to soften the skin and the dryness- you will never have dryness again.

The second thing is drink Acai berrys not the tablets the berrys The Acai berry works to eliminate toxins from your body, and taking the Acai berry will flush harmful toxins from your body.

2 SKIN CARE LINE

After using so many products to keep this thing away i had a break through- EAU THERMALE Avène  is a unique French dermo-cosmetic brand dedicated to each level of skin sensitivity; from sensitive, intolerant to allergic it was made for and is for rosacea prone skin and Psoriasis prone skin, I cant stress how much this product can help for a long term solution - the winter effects the skin this product helps the skin build a barrier and your skin becomes less sensitive.

3 Medical Treament. 5 day course

As soon as you feel or see the lumps/circles you do need internal and external medical treament - Go to the doctors and get prescribed Fexofenadine hydrochloride which is  is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of a chemical which causes symptoms of allergy such as itching and is used to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis or urticaria. Also Prednisolone 30mg the most commonly-prescribed oral corticosteroid. The drug is metabolized in the liver to its active form, prednisolone. Relative to hydrocortisone, prednisone is roughly 4 times as potent as a glucocorticoid. Prednisone is intermediate between hydrocortisone and dexamethasone in duration of action. it is used in many conditions, including allograft rejection, asthma, systemic lupus erythematosus, and many other inflammatory states

The last thing is the medical cream Daktacort hydrocortisone cream it  contains two active ingredients, miconazole and hydrocortisone use it on the rash 2-3 times every day

I Hope this helps its a horrible rash,  I know so much because for me it only comes up on my face (ALL OVER )and i had to find a fast cure.

The medicine will reduce the inflammation of the circles and the cream will remove the rest.

If your unsure if its the same rash reply with your email and i can send pictures as i cant upload on here.

I can pretty much guarantee that you guys have the same thing I get every year and I finally found a doctor that was able to tell me what it is - a rare form of psoriasis that often comes out as the weather gets cold/dry and is also brought on by stress.  There are a few creams that she has prescribed that work to get rid of them but they are pesty and take a while to get rid of.  That being said I get UV treatment - a safe doctor monitored light treatment like a tanning bed and within a month they are all gone typically for the whole winter.  The treatment is usually just 30-60 seconds at a time.  Quick and Easy....

I am 40 and the same circles are appearing on me, off and on about 7 months. Here is the big question, Why are they appearing on our right arm first or rt side upper part of our bodies? Blood enters the heart on the right from upper and lower body. Is it our dirty deoxygenized blood thats causing spots? Why is it on our RIGHT?

Folks, get checked. Discoid lesions could be lupus, which can have wider ranging effects. I am not a doctor. I am a patient who has a rash that reappears in the winter. If the rash reappears, I've been told I should be tested for lupus by a dermatologist.

Oh, and tanning bed... could be a VERY bad suggestion if it's lupus.

Thank you so much! After reading about this dermatitis, this is exactly my condition. I always assumed it was ringworm, but this nummular dermatitis is exactly it. This condition even describes the symmetrical and seasonal features I have noticed, i/e: getting it only in the winter and in the same spots on either leg. I think my trigger is dental amalgams. I think there is a correlation between my fillings and outbreaks. I will have to ask my dentist if the filling material has mercury in it for a confirmation. Very strange, but relieved to finally find out what it is.

61 and been getting a rash on the lower legs (calf and shins) for the last few years from Nov. to Apr. a couple bumps every other week or so  Once the good weather comes it disappears.  Cortisone creams work but 2 doctors couldn't say what it was.  Just treating the symptoms.  Currently trying to add vitamin d with cod liver oil and vitamin d pllls.  Seems okay so far.  Will keep you posted.  Interesting about the tanning thing though.

Hi, I just read your post aboutr the circular areas that you get during winter. I, too, have the same thing, mostly on my inner wrist. I'm 48 years old and live in Minneapolis, where it's cold and dry in the winter. Have you found any answers or relief?
