Sounds like urticaria (hives) and/or flushing. My daughter has dermatographia, which started at age 9 after taking antibiotics (amoxicillin) for strep- unfortunately, she had underlying lyme disease with multiple co-infections that we were unaware of. She was in horrible pain (joints, stomach, head) and went through hell being hospitalized and misdiagnosed twice (first with systemic lupus then sadly with a psychological d/o called somatoform). When I finally figured out what was going on (lyme and PANDAS diagnoses) I searched for a functional medicine practitioner and my daughter, now age 13 is doing much better. BUT she still has exaggerated allergic reactions (which she never displayed before age 9) and she still has really bad dermatographia (at any time she can scratch her skin and it will raise into a hive) but she also gets really itchy and flushed and starts incessantly scratching, which exacerbates the dermatographia. Plus she will get hives in addition to that. So, why am I commenting? For one thing, it sounds like some of you could have an autoimmune disease (which urticaria/hives can be autoimmune-related). For another thing, mainstream doctors don't always have time to look at you as holistically and really dig in to your history and find the root cause of your illness or symptoms (you might have an underlying infection or imbalance in your nutrients or in your gut). If you are not on your deathbed they really don't have time for you. My biggest piece of advice is to invest in your health- pay out of pocket to see a functional med or integrative specialist. One last piece of info: look up MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome)- it's a "newer" diagnosis that not all doctors are aware of (and some might even dismiss) but there are plenty of specialists out there who are educating themselves. It is allergen/immune related and might actually explain some people's "idiopathic" urticaria. I found this page because I recalled that my daughter did get really blotchy in her face when she cried as a baby/toddler. She also had some instances of "reactive airway" and had at least one incidence of photosensitivity rash on her face from the sunscreen we were using..... so don't know if those are parts of her puzzle but I do suspect MCAS or a related problem in her. (But it is tied to her medical history). Anyhow, my advice is to go the functional medicine route!!
