So I will have 1-3 cold sores a year depending on stress and health. About four months ago I started using a retinol cream on my face for aging. I’ve noticed I’ve been getting cold sores pretty regularly. I didn’t know what was going on. This morning I just googled if there’s any correlation between cold sores and retinol cream because that’s all I could think of. And lo and behold I think that’s what’s causing it. It’s such a bummer because I really like the way my skin looks (other than sore obviously). But I keep getting a cold sore on my lips. It’s the only thing different in my routine is the retinol. So I think it’s got to go.
Omg! Came looking for this because at nearly 55 years old, I'm experiencing my first cold sore. I began using topical retinol and hylauronic acid two months ago and felt there may be a connection. I need to reassess my routine now.
Hi) I can recommend Betnovate, for relief of inflammatory skin conditions. Betnovate cream is a good medicine, but consult your doctor first.
hey! so sun exposure in general is a huge trigger for cold sores! and using trent you’re already more susceptible to sun damage so the two join forces, are you using enough sunscreen?
The only time I've ever had cold sores is while using retinol. Back to back cold sores. When I stop using retinol they stop forming. When I start retinol, they come back.
I've been through this process about 4 times just to be sure. Quit using retinol 2 years ago and haven't had a sore since.
And yes I wear SPF 70 indoors and out.
