Try a hydrocortisone cream or ointment for the face. i have a similar problem... coupled with psoriasis, if i recall what the doctor told me before. on the face and on my scalp. a ketoconazole shampoo helps for the scalp, but i also rub hydrocortisone cream on my scalp when it's really bad. apparently, this is worsened by stress and late nights among others. when i was in singapore, the doctor there prescribed me a solution for my scalp that is similar to hydrocortisone, but i forgot the name already.

for cleansing... do not use soaps, scrubs or astringents. i use physiogel cleansing lotion or cetaphil by galderma. neutrogena's extra gentle cleanser is a similar product that i've used before. just tissue off or rinse off with water. then remember to moisturize with SPF!

L-Lysine. take 2000 mg in the morning before you eat and at night before bed. Same treatment as for roseacea as the two ailments are linked. Take omega 3 oils as a supplement. These help reduce inflamation in the vascular system. Wash your skin with a ph nuetral wash or sorbalene in tepid water only. The Lysine is an essential amino acid. It has been found to be deficient in people with roseacea and inflammation of the vascular system. reduce/increase the dose to fine tune the results. Good Luck.

I have seborrhea on my forehead (above left eye). The skin is red and with scales. But this was in the past. Now, I know how to cure it. My skin is again in very good condition without any sign of seborrhea. I place some glycerol on affected skin in the evening. After several evenings all symptoms of seborrhea disappear. After that I stop to apply glycerol, but in about 5-7 days it can appear again. Repeated treatment with glycerol always help. So, please tray glycerol, and it can help magically. You will have to repeat treatment every 5-7 days and everything will be OK. Glycerol is harmless and if you try it will not harm you at all. Good luck.

I suffered with seborrhea dermatitis on my face for about 8 months. My face would be very red across the t-zone like I had been burnt,
the next day it would peel/flake, it would flake for a bout 2 days then it would be fine. Then it would start the
whole process over. I tried a numerous of things, including steroid shots/ went to the dermatologist and had test done to try and figure
out what I was allergic to. To make a long story short my own dermatologist was no help.
I went to one that had been in the business 40 + years and found out it was seborrhea dermatitis, he gave me
a prescription for nystat/triam (generic for mycolog). This cleared it all up within about a week,
no more flaking but my nose is still just a tad bid red across the tip. I'm a much happier person.

Im in my 50's and tried everything. I have used the pale blue dove exfoliating scrub GENTLY.. then used jojohba oil on my face. No stinging or redness after applying. The redness has subsided alot.

I have tried the cortisone creams. Normal sorbelene cream burns and the redness is worse.

Hope this helps

I'm 39 and have had seborrhea for about 13 years.  Mine was a result of birth control - my estrogen levels dropped to below normal menopausal levels, which basically drove me into menopause at a wayyyyy too early age.  I've been fighting it since.

Summer is easy - the sun is actually an asset, as the dermatologist told me it would be.  I still use heavy sunscreen of course, but with no problems.  In the summer I use Neutrogena Ageless Intensives and have zero side effects, even though it's a retinol based product.

In the winter, it can get very bad.  The real key is to "play" with a lot of different products and see what works for you.  You must stay away from scents, if possible.  And glycolics are usually a really, really bad idea.  The Wise Woman line from the Body Shop has been the best line so far, as well as the tea tree cleanser.  I also use Nizoral once or twice a week, as I need it.  I rarely use corticosteroid creams - they are just too harsh and I hate the long term side effects.

If I can offer up any advice, it's to get samples from places like the Body Shop, do some research on the net about sensitive skin products FOR YOUR AGE, stay away from scents, and if you get drugstore products, hang on to your receipt, because most drugstore products are returnable if you're not happy with the results!!  And give everything you try at least two weeks!!  People give up way too quickly if there are no instant results.

Good luck!!!!!!!!

Mario Badescu Healing Cream. I've had this issue for 20 years and have tried steroids, (topical), lotrimin, peroxide and dandruff shampoos. It just got worse. I went to a derm and got a prescription that sent me to the ER. Healing Cream has cleared it up in a week.

Before getting all medicined up, try applying hydrogen peroxide (standard 3%) directly to the typically affected areas. After years of unsuccessfully trying different things, I am able to completely control the condition just by hand-applying hydrogen peroxide to the susceptible areas once or twice a day (wet your fingers from the top of the bottle, rub it on the skin). Keep it out of your eyes. I've experienced no side effects (one wouldn't expect to).

This remedy only takes a few seconds, the cost is trivial, and you won't be wasting your time with doctor visits. If your condition is fungus based, you should find improvement if not total symptom resolution. You can do it when you brush your teeth.

Is it a cure? I don't think so. Also, this approach might not be so popular with some doctors because too many middle men are being bypassed. But sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands when tradition isn't working so well. (And sometimes you want to do it anyway.)

Hi Guys,

I never posted anything before and English is not my native language, I have suffered from seborrheic dermatitis behind my ears inside my ears, on testicals, and the worst on the head of my penis, it was very very painful, red patches and infected bumps, I used several steroid creams, tried anti fungus creams, it was about 80% cleared, but always came back even worst than before.

The doctor kept giving my stronger steroid creams.

I searched online and ordered more then 20 different creams to try cure it without steroid creams, non has worked.

Tried to use apple vinegar and it burned like hell and it worked for few days, but it wasn't cleared completely and the penis was very irritated after sexual contact. Also changed my diet, stopped eating dairy and ate lots of raw foods.

About 2 weeks ago, I got a product that I read good reviews: Mario Badescu Control Cream It changed my life, it worked in 2 days better then steroid creams for 2 weeks. I can finally have sex without pain, I don't think anyone should suffer from this like I did. It is a miracle, I wish I would have found it 10 years ago.

I have been using Ketoconazole cream and shampoo for a couple of years now, but I always feel that when the seasons change, I experience more flares and the treatment isn't effective. Would rotating to Loprox or a different medication help this?

Suderman,

Did you find a solution to your condition.  I have the same, and its very frustrating. My face gets red and I also have seborrehea.  I also get flushed coming in from the cold weather.  I was on accutane and cortisteriods. The accutane resolved my acute acne, but I always had the seborrehea even prior to the accutane.

I've been trying to relieve this myself and I've been finding the DIET and Lifestyle is a huge factor in getting rid of it. Look up Seb. Derm. Diets and you'll find a ton of good stuff. The root of the problem is internal, in our gut.. most people don't realize 70% of our autoimmune system is in our gut.
