I have a question for you but if you're in WPW and you can't get to an emergency room very quickly, are there other options? I feel that there would be. Can you let me know if you know of any?

If you mean in order to diagnose wpw(which is not the most common condition), then as the pp stated you will need to have an ecg whilst it is happening - hence all the advice to get seen asap. Why would you not be able to get to an emergency dept if you were symptomatic? (symptomatic concerns being the original cause for concern on this thread?)

BlueDog,

If I start feeling a rapid heart rate I need to get to an ER or my Cardio. There is a technique that my Cardio showed me to try and slow my heart rate down. It is not something that I want to post, because I would not want anyone thinking they could control this on their own. They CANNOT! Plus, using this technique if it is something other than WPW, would not be good. The best thing would be to call 911 if you are not able to get to an ER or your doctor. And please, if you are really not feeling well, don't try to drive yourself. Also, I would say to anyone it is most important try and stay calm. Do not Panic, because this will only raise you heart rate even faster. Just calm down and get to a doctor.

What I am going to write now pertains to WPW. I do not know if it would apply to anything else. WPW in adults over 25 USUALLY is NOT fatal. People who have symptoms as a child are more at risk, then those with no symptoms until adulthood (over 25). So if you are an adult over 25, with WPW and just starting to have symptoms calm down. They are very scary when going through them, but more than likely you will be okay and with proper medical treatment live a long life.

Well, I'm glad that you're being really responsible with it. I wouldn't really want someone doing something dangerous like that either. but I do appreciate the information. If I ever happen to develop it, I have you to thank for knowing what to do. So thank you and best of luck to you...
