I have had Insomnia for many , many years.
I have tried ALL the Over the counter products , and they only contain Benadryl.
That does not help me sleep at all.
I went to the doctor and was given a prescription for Ambien CR and that didn't work either.
I again went to the doctor and was given a prescription for : Doxepin.
The doctor told me that is an OLD Anti-Depressant med that came out about 40 + years ago and it's chief side effect is You Sleep.
I said > I Don't want an anti-depressant as I am NOT Depressed.
She said try it , it's not being used for depression but to relieve Insomnia.
So I gave it a try. Oh good grief , that stuff makes you DRUNK as a skunk.
You can't talk , becauuse you get slurred speech , you can't think or concentrate on anything.
And it did NOT help me sleep.
I might have drifted off for a minute or to , and when I did , I got Terrible nightmare haluccinations.
I will Never take that stuff again. Wicked med.
My husband suggested trying 2 or 3 sips of Red Wine before bed.
So I tried it , but felt instantly tipsy so I went to bed and I was able to actually sleep about 4 hours.
Does anyone have any suggestions ??

You are a trooper. If I miss one or two nights of good sleep, I am useless for a couple of days. I really sympathize with you. Have you considered contacting a university related hospital that is doing research in the area of sleeping disorders? I believe that they many institutions are making strides in this area. Another thought might be to consider a medical professional that can help you determine what is causing your sleep problems. If they are not physiological, could there be an emotional cause? Have you considered sleep apnea? I hope that these questions will help you move in a direction that will give you the answers that you need. Please keep me updated on your progress since you made this post and what you are finding out. Good luck!
