You might be onto something here as I suffer from static shock. Supermarket fridges, stairways most metal objects. I've read that elastic bands stop this so maybe thats worth investigating as well :)

Thank you, I just turned 50, my itching started about 2 months ago and I also noticed stiffness in the joints in m hands and knees started as well. The itching is severe after I take a shower. It sends me into a panic attack and I get stuck in the bathroom not knowing what to do, get dressed, or what! Is there an arthritis test?
Thanks

I've been dealing with this for about 6 years now and it's MISERABLE! I dread my showers everyday because i know what I'm face when i get out. Often times, i can feel the itching and burning towards the end of the shower. I've tried hot showers, cold showers and lukewarm showers and neither one made a difference. The itching and stinging occurs on my legs mainly, and also on my arms and the top of my feet. But my legs get it the worse. I use Dove unscented soap and have been using it since i was 15 and im 27 now. So i know it's not the soap. When this first started, i began using baby oil with aloe and it helped it a little but not long. I still use it now only because my skin feels dry without it. When i turn the shower off, i rub baby oil all over my skfrkfrom my neck down and pat dry. The ONLY thing that makes this issue completely disappear is tanning in a tanning bed. It sounds crazy but it's true. My dermatologist said its a mild case of Eczema and ordered me to take claratin once a day but it didn't help and i honestly don't think thats what it is. I came across the Aquagenic Pruitus a while back ago and it's spot on to the symptoms i have and will mention it at my next derm appt. Until then, I've noticed that after a shower, putting a cold compress on my legs helps make the itching stop faster than doing nothing at all and it's much better than scratching as I've found that makes it ten times worse.

Have you tried stopping using tap water on your Body at all, testing instead using small amounts of pure Mineral water and only natural organic oil as a moisturiser, instead of manufactured lotions with chemicals that can harm and irritate your Skin, as do the irritants in the tap water?

I also HAD this problem until I found out , by the grace of God that I was allergic to wheat. I cut out eating wheat and I haven't been itching since! So you may want to go to an allergist to find out what you're allergic to.

I have had this dor like 2 years. Im only 14 though. It isnt as bad for me as it is for you guys. I think it only affects men. It may have to do something with hair. If you push your hair opposite the way it naturally goes, it seems to help with the pain.

You didn't say if you have hives or redness. If you do, ignore the following. If there is no sign of rash etc, then try this. Eliminate the causes. Shower without soaps shampoos, etc. See if it still itches. Try hot, cool and cold showers. See if that makes a difference. Check room temperature of bathroom when exiting shower. (It might be temperature change activated as well) Try a bath instead of a shower. Then try sodium bicarbonate, (Baking soda) in the bath. Have your Dr. do a simple high histamine test. (Consists of a simple scratch test on your arm and observing the results over 10 minutes or so) Someone else suggested having a high red blood cell count test done.(Simple blood test) Can't hurt. I'm currently testing fish oils (Omega3, cod liver oil.) I'll let you know what I find out.

I totally agree with you on this. Had it for a few months now. Only my arms and legs and affected. The itch was so severe, it made me cry. The only relief I've gotten so far is to use Sarna Anti-itch lotion BEFORE I shower, try to stay out of the direct spray as long as possible, use only tepid water and reapply the lotion after I towel off! Hope this works for someone else.

Okay I've been taking Cod Liver Oil capsules for almost 2 weeks now. (Twice a day, morning and evening) It seems to be working!!!!!!!!! I get a little itching but no where near as bad as before. I've stopped taking the antihistamines the Dr. prescribed. The only thing I'm depending on is the Cod Liver Oil and it has reduced the itching dramatically. In fact it's barely there at all. I intend to continue taking it for the forseable future and I'll let you know. I've also heard about applying baby oil to the affected body parts directly after showering. I haven't tried this myself yet, but I intend to when I finish testing the Cod Liver Oil. Give it a try. What do you have to lose? I wouldn't take more than the recommended daily dose though.

This may sound crazy, but I have found a solution that works for me most of the time. I put a piece of tin foil between my outer shirt and my t- shirt. I have had itching on my back for several years, and nothing helps for long, except for the foil! I think that the foil serves two purposes, it is a mositure barrier and it possibly prevents any static build up between the skin and the clothing. Their is little or no itching of the skin below the foil. Note that the foil is not in contact with the skin. Regards from a retired E.E.

I forgot to mention, I don't use tap water at all, only pure mineral water on my skin or for drinking and cooking, and toothbrushing with salt paste. I've gone all this winter with no dry, sore skin at all.

I've had this problem for years. I've lived in various climates from constantly cold and wet temperate to dry tropical and humid tropical, and climate only seems to make a small difference. I have no skin conditions, been on various diets from really bad to really healthy, and been on various medications for non-skin conditions, and none of these things have made any major difference. One thing I've found that makes it much worse is using a scouring soap (like Salvol) or any type of exfoliating device (like a luffa), which might give a clue as to the cause. The number one thing I've found that works every time is after showering, turn the water to straight cold and get under it for a few seconds, then switch to as hot as I can stand and get under that for a few seconds, then cold again and hot again. Usually this is enough to stop it although sometimes I'll repeat the cycle more. I don't know if this is fixing the problem or desensitizing the receptors but it works for me. And best of all it doesn't involve buying anything or using medications (most of which you know won't work because it's just scams run by the pharma companies). If I start itching because I didn't do enough cycles then I use a hair drier with a cool function to do more cycles.

Hi everyone;
Okay I've researched thing for several months now and I think I've found a solution. I used to have this itching after showering to the point of going crazy. Nobody could even talk to me when I was going through it. Baths, pools, didn't help at all. Salt water swimming was especially bad. I've had it for several years. Then I read in a blog where a guy had tried Cod Liver Oil and swore it worked miracles for him. It didn't really seem like a fix to me at the time, but I was desperate. So I started taking it. I took 1 capsule once a day (.73 grams) At first it didn't do much. I thought I was on another losing streak. Of course I didn't really expect much anyway. But I kept taking it anyway. After about a month I noticed the itching going away. (Somewhat) It was still there but no where near as strong. It's been about 2 months now and the itching has almost completely left. It is so minute that you don't even notice it. I couldn't believe it was that simple! Just a little fish oil and I'm cured. I don't know what will happen if I stop taking it so I intend to stock up and continue it for the foreseeable future. It's like a miracle to me. I can live a normal life again and the shower isn't the scariest place on earth anymore. I'm clean again and loving it. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose unless you have a serious allergy to fish. Don't give up though. It takes a while to take affect.

Hello my name is Alexxis and I have had this severely itching since I was a child either after bathing,or showering,or just getting wet,or like being patted on my body. I have had times I'd go crazy. I am still itching after I showered earlier. I have went too see a dermatologist and she had recommended me some over the counter meds I had too get from the pharmacist,but still why do I have this itch. I am the only one in my family who suffers with this. My doctor told me my body may be allergic too water. I would seriously love too know what is this condition called,and if there's a cure. It's depressing. I shower once a week. I cannot bare too have too itch from bathing or taking a shower every day. I can't,so I rather deal with the itch for one day after being wet,from bathing or showering. I mean ,I still wash myself of course,but I cannot go on like tho this. I'm 36 now and been dealing with this since like the age of 5 yrs old. This has too end . Any dermatologist reading this please help. I don't think I can continue dealing with this anymore. It's now an hour. I'm still itching.

Hi Alexxis;
My name is Cal. I'm not sure if what you have is the same as mine. But I get severe itching for about an hour after showering, bathing or swimming. Salt water is extremely reactive. You're right it can drive you crazy. I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you what I did to almost completely cure it. (So far)
I had to try several different antihistamines before I found Reactine.(10mg) but it didn't really do all that much either. It did calm the itch somewhat, but not a whole lot.
I read on the internet about some guy who tried COD LIVER OIL capsules. My first thought was, "I can't see this working." But he swore it worked for him and I was pretty desperate. So I started taking them. For the first month I didn't see much difference. (I was still taking my reactine) Then suddenly I began to notice a reduction in my itching. I've been taking them for 2 months now and the itching is just about gone. I mean so little that you hardly notice it. (I stopped taking my reactine weeks ago and it is still working great. I can shower swim, bath and almost nothing. I'm hoping that soon it will be completely gone. Even where I am now, I've got my life back. I don't dred the shower anymore. In fact I love it.
I don't know what will happen if I stop taking Cod Liver Oil capsules, so I intend to continue it for quite some time. They are also quite a bit cheaper than antihistamines. I don't know of any side effects of Cod Liver Oil, unless you have an allergy to fish, but you could ask your doctor. All I can tell you is it's working for me and I've never been happier. I take .73gram capsules once per day. Good luck.
