Oh by the way. It's called, Aquagenic Puritis. Loosely translated it means, Water caused itching.

The first thing I would do is take a shower without using soaps, shampoos conditioners etc. to see if it is a reaction to the water or something else.

For me it's about too rapid of a temperature change. It is peculiar how it only happens with water I e showers and sometimes pools. If I bundle up immediately upon leaving the shower and/or use a heater in the bathroom for several minutes I have NO problems at all. Zero. Works like a charm.

Sweat from exertion and then a shower is a lethal combo for me also! However, if I'm in the sun for the day, on and off, a little sunburn, I DO NOT itch. Now that it's still winter, no matter what the water temp is, I itch! Thank goodness for the HOT blow dryer! I aim it inside my shirt and down my back and arms! Don't know what else to do!

Try taking Cod Liver Oil capsules. I didn't believe it when I read about it, but it definitely works for me. I can swim, shower, bath, anything with almost no itching. I know it sound crazy, but it works. Took me a long time to find this out. What have you got to lose. Cod Liver Oil capsules are cheap too. You take them for about a month at least and you should notice a difference. That is if your itching is the same as mine. Doctors call it Aquagenic Pruritis. Loosely translated it means, "Water caused itching" It has no rash, hives etc. Shows no signs on the body. It just itches like hell for 20 - 30 minutes after a shower. Good luck.

I suffered terribly like you but by taking two extra strength antihistamines every night and applying a benadryl anti itch cream to my legs legs arm I'm I'm exiting the shower has made a huge difference.

I have had this same condition my whole life and I have found that if I take a shower after waking up its far worse, showering in the evening helps and I think it might be a circulation thing, if I really need to shower in the morning I find ten minutes on my kids trampoline helps to get the blood pumping and avoid the itch,

Also for me . If I shave I will feel the prickling itch on my back or stomach , like opening the skin and water hits it it starts the itch ? Like being allergic to water/sweat? The best thing I found is taking bynadril tab every day . Has kept the attach from re occurring as frequent!

Hello! I too only get it in late summer although I sometimes get it at the beginning of summer but never in the middle! I thought perhaps it had something to do with the change in the seasons.Exactly like you I get if for about 20 mins and it is like itchy pins and needles. A few years ago I had some allergy tests and was told I had a yeast sensitivity so may be beer might bring it on? Doesn't explain the fact that is happens only at certain times of the year though. Even during the periods I do get it (usually 3 weeks) it is weirdly intermittent. This is infuriating because I will try something like not using a towel and I won't itch and I think 'great that's the solution' only to find that a few days later it's back even though I don't use a towel. I have tried every variable (soap, no soap, moisturiser, drip drying, drying with hair dryer, etc....) but nothing has stood the test of time. I mainly get it on my legs (lower) and have tried treating one leg different from the other - no difference. If I shave my legs in the shower I get is much much worse - that I do know. I can't bear it!

Only solution that changed my life was to leave my legs dry without touching. I was miserable all winter because my legs would itch so much I could cry. Never again. 3 years later, still good!

You might have them run some liver /kidney labs...sometimes extreme itching comes from renal failure, hepatitis or other issues...I deal with it.
