Hi had symptoms like that and at times it would seem more severe than others. I 100% cut wheat out of my diet and after 2 months no itch! I've been gluten free for 3 years and couldn't be happier- better skin, no tummy aches, never get 'the stomach flu', never get rashes and best of all I can swim and bathe freely!

I just found this forum. I've belonged to the aquagenic pruritus yahoo group for about ten years. Others on that group have cut out wheat and others have found different food allergies that seem to make their itching worse. My itching has been much better since adopting dietary changes.

Itch free for 4 months. All natural oils. I am trying to develop a product but the moderator will not let me ask anyone to try my blend. So I can not help any of you.  I will try to find another source of individuals with this affliction that I can work with. I hope to be able to communicate with you about any developments but the people who run this site do not want you to find a cure. They apparently want to just continue to have you log in and see the ads they get paid for. I have responded to a warning I received but they never got back to me.

Good luck

Think about it, the freezing water kills the mites. Does that sound logical to you?

Finally people who understand ME. I thought I was alone in this. My husband used to want to get in the shower for "fun" and quickly realized showers for me are NOT FUN. It's more like grit your teeth and beat the clock. I'm using warm not hot water, Dial white antibacterial soap (wish they made one that wasn't a deoderant soap as I suspect that additive is the culprit). If i use any oils or too gentle soap I don't feel clean and it makes the itch worse. I pat dry and use sensitive laundry detergent and rinse out my wash cloth before I use it. I'm now trying Tom's antipersperant and starting using sulfate free shampoo. I wear loose cotton pjs and sleep on clean cotton sheets. I do take a hair skin and nails pilln daily but this itchyness started years ago and made severely worse after an allergic reaction to sulfa. I don't get it as bad now but I wonder if sulfates in laundry detergent, etc or even tap water may be causing this.

Thats a shame as I would love to find a solution. I dread showers and cannot even swim to help my bad back as the itch would be worse than the back pain afterwards. Is there any other way that we can contact each other? Maybe via Twitter?

For me it is the quick temperature differential. I put a small heater safely in the corner of my bathroom, turn it on medium or high. After my shower, I quickly, but gently dry off and then put on a mid to heavy bathrobe. Then I reduce the heater to low for a few minutes while I change into regular clothes. Then I turn the heater off. It works every time! No more itching. Just be safe...don't touch the heater while wet.

Terrible that the moderator won't post it as so many people are suffering. Any chance that you could tweet it under the same heading?

I too suffer from this. I dread showering. I do it twice a day and I some times itch on both showers and sometimes I just itch one. I have also tracked and I itch after I had alcohol and I honestly thought I was going crazy on thinking that until I read your post. It's amazing how I have gotten tested for allergies and wheat was not apart of my allergies. I have a sever allergy to nickle and some components found in lotions and soaps. I dnt know what to do and it seems it's a group of us in the same situation. My next trip will be the derm and hope to get some help. I will keep y'all posted.

Hey DKM I've been having this problem almost as long as you have take maybe 2 years off your anguish; I too like you tried everything possible but to no avail. Then one day My friend Ravi who is Indian suggest I try salted water therapy. The way it works is you put about 10gms of mixed salts into the tub with a temperature just below unbearable( i.e just below scalding but you can set it to your preference but temperature is the Key here). It was unbearable the first couple of times but then got used to it. Then Voila, the itching was gone and I finally feel liberated.I've been through phases in my life where I was so frustrated by not being able to shower (and I'm talking summer months here), I practically had to bathe myself in perfume to hide the smell ( Not to mention I wasn;t popular with the girls), I know how it feels. Then I got sth more amazing, My friend ,of whom I mentioned earlier, went to his native India and got me some kinda mineral rocks. He said they use it over there as an aftershave(It is vaseline colored and odorless) I exactly forgot what it is called but anyways , all you do is add it to your watertank or your bathtub in hot water and it works wonders. I was totally blown away by the result. After seeing scores of doctors and dermatologists and trying almost every advice , I finally had sth that worked. Now My itching has subsided significantly. You can also try steam therapy they work too. I don't know if you can actually follow my advice but I'm just letting a fellow with the same problem I had , know what worked for me and I'm not kidding.

Hello!  I too suffer.

Short of running a hot iron on my skin, I've been there and done that.

I too have been on vacation to sunny climate area for 3 months at a time- NO ITCHING, but I also loose weight(as someone stated above), excersise, SWIM in ocean, and do not eat excessive chocolate or sweets.  I do however drink coffee and alcohol?  So which one is it?  What stopped the itching?

Also these "tricks" we do sometime helps and sometimes NOT.  I have found that looking for an explanation in soaps and lotions, alcohol or antihistamines are fruitless or a bandaid approach.

I do not believe in the mite theory.

I do not believe in the static electricity theory.

I do not believe in a secret potion.

Here it is & some people have touched on this.  It is internal.

My link with a few of you.  I've always suffered with constipation.  I have gallbladder stones.  I almost always have anemia.   I do not have Polycythemia Vera, but I looked it up.  What I do have is the exact opposite, but some of the symptoms are identical.

What I believe I have is thrombocytopenia- low blood platelets, (I think enlarged spleen too), tiny red dots that form permanently on my skin & ITCHING after water exposure(including sweat).

The fact that some people find relief from certain supplementation could be that the supplements help whatever may be off internally with our blood or organs(specifically spleen, liver, gallbladder), or digestive issues(celiac, ect).

In my case I do have low blood platelets, ect.  This happened after the birth of my daughter. It does correspond to the number of years I have been suffering.

In someone else's case it could be a virus or bacterial or fungus causing the itching?

I did read in someone's post they took an antibiotic after a motorcycle accident that started the aquagenic Pruritis.  This medicine messed something up internally.  It may have been the gut flura?  I am not a doctor.

I do want to add.  I have never taken antibiotics.  I am a naturalist. I love anything green to eat! I am afraid of conventional doctors.  I have never abused drugs.  I have however been addicted to milk chocolate/sugar.

As we all know by now, sugar is evil for our bodies.  I do believe it does aggrevate our condition.  You might want to add coffee and alcohol to the list.:(

Thank you to the posts on Polycythemia Vera & all the posts that led me to my new conclusion & new course of action- a hemotologist.  I still am a bit afraid, but I need to find the truth, as we all do!

Good luck!

You can use any supplemental oil products that ease the itchiness of your skin.
