I have the problem for about 3 years; I went some specialists , but they said that I had dry skin , they gave lotions . However I am disappointed with that prescription. Now I go under sometimes one or two times a week;specially after doing some exercise and making my body warm until sweating (perspire ), getting wet skin will help. And after taking shower I go out to expose my skin to fresh weather ;especially I am taking bath on windy days. It deceases my pain . Using fans will keep skin cold after shower.Avoid itching , because it will hurt the skin. However, if you want to itch, you should use some creams.Anyway , I think, another problem is climate; when I went to the Middle East in summer, I did not have any problems, the climate was about 30-40 C degree and humid , that I was sweating always.

Hello all, just to let you know there is something that can help you all, I've been using it for years.

It's a cream called 'Dermovate 1:10 In White Soft Paraffin', and it's very effective. I use it after bathing and don't itch for TEN days. I then bath and apply the cream again after the ten days.

The only downside is that the cream is very messy. You have to use it last thing at night and let it work whilst you're asleep.

My skin is slightly different in that it itches like mad after coming into contact with water, but will also start to intensely itch after around 9-10 days after using the cream. I also have Multiple Sclerosis which may or may not be an extra complication to the skin problem, but I'm nnot sure.

Talk to your Dr's and hopefully they can help. I've suffered with the problem for around 18 years, but have got used to it and work my life around the treatment which helps.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally someone knows what I am talking about. I too have this horrible burning and itchy skin problem. I know my husband thinks I am crazy, but the pain from this is horrible. I have a difficult time finding clothing that does not set my skin on fire and water just makes it worse. I have tried all types of lotions, but they make my skin feel as if it is on fire. I have arthritis, so I will ask my doctor if this is a possibilty. It's just so wonderful to know I am not the only one who suffers from this condition. I can't tell you how many times the pain has brought me to tears.

hello everyone
it's kinda good to know that i'm not the only one having this problem. I have been having this itching problem for couple years but mine is slightly different.here is the deal, I do not itch all the time. i itch after shower when my skin dries off and during a day if i sweat little bit only during summer actually at the end of summer. other seasons i take lots of showers and im good. i go to my summer house, i tan and come back to my city my skin peels and i lose my tan and my itching problem starts. therefore, i believe it has something to do with dry skin after summer and tanning however, moisturizers do not help. anyway it is good to know i am not the only one who seeks for an answer. hopefully someone finds an answer and share with us and save us from this problem soon.

I used to have the same issue. Try finding a soap that doesnt have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. It solved my problem over night. :-D

Hello Everyone,

I too am so glad that I found this forum. I have had this problem for about a year. I'm not sure if it's the same for me though because for me it's not just itching, there is also some stinging involved and it can happen all through the day, though it is worse after showering. I have tried all kinds of soaps and lotions, though nothing seems to cure it, some natural soaps make a small difference. I hope with all my heart that I can find an answer because sometimes I feel that I'm going to jump right out of my skin. Good luck to us all.

Hi all.

I used to have it as a kid. My mother asked about it and she was adviced to shower in the evenings instead of in the mornings. For me it worked and I even forgot about it. Now I am 30 and it just came back when I shower in the mornings.

Best wishes.

hello

Oh I am so glad that I am not the only one that has this, at least I know I'm not crazy like others have said too. But mainly because I know this is now a real thing, not just in my head. People don't believe because there is nothing on your skin to show the itchy pain so they don't believe it is real. I too thought for a long time that it had to do with the soap I was using, but I am still itchy even if I don't use soap. The worst part is I love being in water!! And I am usually fine in lakes, but pools are really bad. Showers are the worst! And I have not found a difference when I change the temperature either. However I will try the baby oil before hand and see if that helps. but the strangest thing is that suffered from this a few years ago and then it went away, but now 3 years later it is back.... oh how I hope it goes away again, but this time for good!

I suffer from this as well on my arms and legs, and my GP obviously wasn't sure what it was or how to treat it. I explained that I'd tried all sorts of different gels and soaps, even a shower with just water and nothing else. She insisted it was my shampoo or shower gel and prescribed me an oil-based cleanser called Oilatum Emollient (which u can get without prescription as well), which I didn't think would help. I tried it anyway, and it did actually minimise the itch afterwards. Some people have said moisturising before a shower helps, which I guess is because once your skin has absorbed the lotion, it doesn't absorb so much water. I find covering my arms and legs with baby oil really helps, especially combined with the Oilatum. I also agree with the people who say afternoon/evening showers are better - I'm always affected worst when I have a shower first thing.
So, for me at least, baby oil, oilatum emollient and afternoon showers is the way to go. Hope this helps!

i found an article that presented some information that makes alot of sense, in the fact that it could start up because of switching a soap, using the same soap or always being there cause its in almost all soap: sodium lauryl sulfate or some ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed why you itch after shower this article probably will describe things better but to sum it up its an additive from coconut that breaks the natural barrier in the skin, causing alergies and irritants to become stronger, apparently more than 41% of the population is sensitive to it. all because it makes soap foam more, and since people feel foamier soap means cleanier clean, the companies put it in the product. as a result most of the soaps out there have it. if ya feel like testing the theory on a boring day take a shower with out soap. see how ya feel when ya towel off. or look for products without "sls, sodium lauryl sulfate, naturally occuring surfacants or foaming agents". apparently the search might not be easy but they're out there.

Oh my God!!!! I've been having this problem for about a year now, and I'm so happy I'm not the only one. My mom never really believed me... and my boyfriend thinks I'm just weird... well, thanks for all the suggestions, and what helps me is opening the windows in my room, so that fresh air comes in and change there... Still, I know what you people are going through...

I've had this issue as well. I do not get a lot of sun because I work out inside, work inside, play games inside, and I hate sun burn; however, I when I do get enough sun, the itching goes away.

I'd also recommend getting enough iron in your diet. Red meat or arugula should do the trick.
