I live in the UK and had the op done on the NHS. Really pleased that this awful situation is not unique. I have the same as all you guys and just hope it will return to normal soon. My penis has disappeared into a huge black ball, my Mrs thinks it's comical, but it's not for the owner that's for sure.

Glad I found this string. Had right side inguinal surgery 5 days ago. Day after surgery bag was swollen to the size of a grapefruit. What really put me off was my bag was black! I felt a trip to the emergency room was in order. The ER doctor assured me things were normal. He contacted the surgeon and discussed my situation and got a copy of the surgeons report. I was never informed, by the surgeon, that my ball sac would swell the way it has and turn black. I've applied ice packs almost continually but have not seen much reduction in swelling. Good to know I'm not alone here.

My inguinal hernia mesh implant was a bit more complicated than most, due to scar tissue from an abdominal surgery I had decades ago. The pain, swelling and discoloration during the 7-10 days after surgery was considerable. I am now a year out, and still have a tender right testicle and some discoloration of the scrotum. Honestly, I'm not positive I'm better off now than I would be had I not gotten the surgery. The surgeon might say otherwise, since I lift weights and probably would have further aggravated my hernia. Although the quality of my discomfort is different, the level is about the same.

After 72 hours after the surgery, the base of my penis started swelling without any discomfort. Kind of a baggie squishy swelling and a little discoloration. I'm a little worried, but after reading a few articles I feel OK. I thought this might be due to having sex after 24 hours, which I did. I hope I did not damage anything. Again, no pain around the penis or scrotum area.

I am in day 2 and I have the same things going on, I presume it a normal thing , but obviously a little worried, I'm 56 and have never suffered problems before, I guess all we can do is wait, there is no pain in the penis nor the scrotum, just black and blue, the hernia itself is still painful from the op, but this will get better as each day passes I hope.

June 8th, had bilateral inguinal femoral hernia repair. I will have to say first that expectations were set. The facility and the staff that I was referred to and that the services that I received were the best . I knew what I was going into while before I went into it and I knew what to expect coming out post surgery. It's been funny in some respects reading some of these threads. But it's also been sad at the same time. I see you sad, because I know what it's like to go into surgery and be in total fear having a head full of questions because questions create fear of the unknown going. Especially when you come out and you're in that first or second day of recovery and your body is going through all these symptoms and changes and pain and you don't know what to expect or what's going on. That is direct result of expectations having not been set questions having not been answered and you don't know what the heck is going on with your body or what is going to happen as a direct result. I eat on my dime is this normal? This is where I say in my case expectations were set and I knew what I could expect to happen. I cannot say enough about the staff from the very beginning of my experience. I went in I watch the video I did some paperwork. Then I came back for my next appointment which would be the surgery. They prepped me and got me already . I don't even remember being wheeled in a wheelchair to the car and I had already set up 24 hour visitation in case something were to go wrong post surgery. It is now day for and I am pretty much on my own now but the people still checking in on me that is my friends to make sure everything is still OK. But I did have some someone spend the first 24 hours in my apartment with me to make sure nothing went wrong. When I left the hospital they had ice packs on me obviously I was well medicated so there was no pain to be felt my prescription was already filled ready for me by my Friend so that the whole transition was very smooth. I was told there would be swelling I was told that my stomach muscles would be very sore I was also told that total recovery time would be six weeks for this surgery recovery. They did tell me that they fully expected that I would be up at the very least walking around in my apartment that night upon returning home. And they were right. That night I was able with assistance to at least walk to the restroom and to my bedroom. I did sleep in my recliner. I actually slept very well in my recliner. Some of the threads I have read and hear surprise me, as it seems that either one of two things have happened. One people are not paying attention to the medical staff and their information that they are giving, or 2 they are not being given all the information they need to know. I would like to believe the latter of the two choices is not necessarily true. Even my coworkers at my job well a few of them anyhow have had such surgeries and informed me that they had become quite swollen in the groin area after their surgeries. I will say nobody told me that their penis disappeared or that it became swollen at all. Mine has become a little bit swollen and at times it has near disappeared as well. My testicles have become and largest they have become swollen they have become black and blue and everything that I have been told that they would do. Yep they have become very magical and all this to have been able to do and perform. Nothing fun and nothing wonderful about it. But they have not reached the size of bowling balls cantaloupes basketballs or any where near the size detected in any of the other illustrations that I have read by anyone else here. I have kept ice on very frequently. If you have the opportunity to use crushed ice it seems to conform a lot better than cubed ice. I have been using Ziploc bags. You do if you can . I can one bag of zip it and place it in another bag then roll those bags inside a microfiber cloth's as to provide yourself as much comfort as possible. I have been taking my meds every four hours as directed by my provider. I stay off my feet as much as possible but I do get up and walk around to get Some exercise. Outside of that plenty of clear fluids a lot of fruit cherries blueberries anything to make me poop. LOL. Best wishes and good luck to you all.

I had an open hernia surgery 6 day back. With one on the upper right side and the other protruding down through my scrotum the surgeons applied a mesh on both sides I don't know much about the medical hernia terms. The surgery was okay but one the forth day I noticed some pain in my right tentacle, the upper nerve's the swelling has been increasing. Am not afraid of the pain but the swelling I don't know if anyone here has experienced it when you guys talk about the pain I know how it feels currently am talking some pain killers the surgeon suggests I wear tight pants and try to relax. I hope the situation returns to normal if anyone has a solution I will be glad if you shared with me.
