A few years ago now but went through same. I know it's worrying. There is light on the other side however. I wasn't right for nearly 4 weeks and hope you don't have to endure for so long. Requiring a wheelbarrow to cart around an oversize scrotum is no laughing matter. The pain is debilitating and there's nowt you can do but rest and wait it out. I'd take some pain meds however. Some try to 'tough it out' but really you should tell your doc it really, really hurts and he should sort some pain management for you to tide you over. Enduring unecessary pain over a long period can have some unwelcome side-effects too.

I had inguinal hernia surgery on 11/10 and after two weeks severe pain, swelling in my left scrotum, was given Hydrocodne for the pain, it blocked me up terribly made the pain worse, and this was perfectly normal. Iced the injured scrotum helped for 10 minutes, hurt sitting, getting up, sitting on johjn, getting in car, putting on socks, had to switch to depends for comfort and support, today 12/9 had ultrasound on swollen scrotum, swollen more painful talk of perhaps removing affected area, saw surgeon then a urologist, who said I had a infection, put me on Gabapentin 600mg generic for Neurontin,Ciprofloxacin 500mg 2x daily for 14 days, and Hyrdocodone 325 4x daily, and I had blood in urine and will deal with that in 2 weeks.

DO IT!
I waited for over a year to the point it went from the top hole to the bottom, and then down to the sack! I'm 71 years old and have a bad heart so it was a little hard to get it done once I decided.
I cannot take many medications, so have just taken Tylenol and for me that has done the trick.
The swelling YES, but after calling my Dr at the Beth Israel here in Boston I think it will be OK until I see him. One thing that I was told was to feel it and if it was warm OK, but if it was COLD to get in to see the Dr right away as that could mean trouble..
Whatever you do, get it done though!!

Hi all thought i might share my current experience. I had surgery some 4 weeks ago, after surgery i had alot of pain even after taking endone. Extremely painful doing any type of movement at all. I saw my surgeon 2 weeks after surgery who informed me that he had to pull my right testicle out of the cut in my groin area to repair the hernia, hense why i had so much pain swelling you name it etc.
The swelling currently is the size of a grapefruit, which is now creating a blister like effect on my right side of my scrotum i can only presume it is due to the scrotum not coping with the stretching.
I have booked in to see the surgeon again as i am having a strange pain coming from the blistered area. Lets see what occurs will update.

My husband had same problem but also with stabbing pain; our best research indicates swelling from mesh and pain from nerve damage. After two years of enduring this and the doctors stating everything on the mri was fine, my husband began applying one drop of helichrysum essential oil over the incision sites at night and in the morning . After a few months of use, I noticed he rarely had the stabbing pains and his complaints of swelling were becoming more and more infrequent. We are going to add to this regimen rankincense oil, as it has been shown to repair cellular damage. Short of more surgical procedures, this has been an answered prayer and is worth a try if you are suffering as well. Make sure you use digestible grade essential oils, not the stuff sold in health stores.

Good day. Can you please tell me how everything worked out for you? I am in my third week now after open inguinal hernia repair and there is STILL a hard mass in my scrotum that continues to give me pain and discomfort. Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated.

It has been 3 years since mine and my right testicle is still larger. When I bend over while sitting it gets in the way. My urologist says it's nothing to worry about. At age 61, I now am having trouble with BPH, ED and making sure my PSA is at a safe level.

It's now five days since my operation and I appear to recovering quite well, I'm up and about like a spring lamb and my fears that it was an arthritic hip have all but been eliminated! However my joy has been short lived and the ability to sample a slice of luck with ample cream has eluded me once again?
Three days ago when I arose, I did so with much more than I bargained for and although I anticipated the soreness, several of the 16 staples appear to be quite angry. This I presume had led to a large discharge of blood and fluids into areas that are best described these days as the 'land that time forgot' and ironically everything in this former pleasure beach has now become rather dark and rather swollen... Considerably! Now I know there's a few of you who might welcome, nay dare I say 'consider this a blessing' but I know others including friends who are gleefully thinking that this couldn't have happened to a more nicer person than I.
When or if you read some of the comments contained herein it would appear that I've got off lightly. I do have a pool which I'm using as often as I can but you can imagine how much this aches immersing your pride and joy into freezing water. So let the truth be known that having a rather large sad and lonely walrus peering back at you in the mirror ain't all its cracked out to be, and the moral of this story is: be happy with your little chappie, look after him, keep him clean, warm and well wrapped up and if you do take 'Big Ed' for some air be careful you don't get an hernia
