Hello. I'm 19 year old male and I'm pretty scared right now because I'm experiencing some strange things lately.
Every time I come out of sleep, I shake with short quick vibrations in my arms and hands and neck area which last from 15 seconds to 1 minute and then I wake up.
I didn’t tell anything about this to anyone because I'm afraid they could think I'm crazy or something. I don’t know what to do-all I know is that I'm pretty scared.
Does anyone have similar symptoms or suggestions/direction?

First of all I would like to tell you that you are not alone with this problem because many children, including my son, have suffered from this condition. When he started to suffer from this we also didn’t know what to do about it because it was so unusual for us.
So, we took him to see a psychiatrist and after few sessions it never happened again. The doctor told us that this condition is called Nocturnal myoclonus sleep disorder.
Patients with nocturnal myoclonus wake up because of cramps or twitches in the calves, shoulders and neck. He told us that the causes are not known but many doctors think it is due to child anxiety. It could be also from drug mixing. He prescribed him some sedative or hypnotic medications and in a month or so, this problem became an ancient history.

Buy a bottle of 'tonic water' at your grocery store. It's in the pop cooler or on the shelf and used for mixing drinks like gin and tonic. It contains a small amount of quinine that causes nerves to quiet down and has been used for more than a century as a 'tonic' for nervous twitches. Tastes awful, but it works. I keep a bottle in my fridge at all times, but haven't needed any for over 2 years now.
