I've spent the last hour searching the web, but I can't find any answers to the question. This syndrome must have a name, and I'd love to find out more about it. In the meantime, I consume very little wine or beer when eating a meal. Just too painful!
Exact same problem here! I got tired of this happening every time i drink something w/ alcohol.. so i found this thread. If anyone finds out what the f is causing this please email me:: _[removed]_
SAME HERE !!! I can't believe so may people have this problem and Dr.'s are dumbfounded by the suggestion.
Yep, me too, for years. Not only alcohol but sodas with high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. My dentist said it is related to my TMJ. Apparently the more my jaw joint gets inflamed, the bigger negative impact it can have on the salivary gland that is nearby, causing a painful spasm when I eat or drink certain things. If that is indeed what's happening, I'm still waiting for a solution. I read somewhere on the web that a person had those glands removed. Yuck!
Me too. I have it right now. Oi.
Same problem here too. Consuming alchohol from last 6 yrs or so, but the problem starts only 6 months ago. I really got a severe pain in my jaw which lasts for about 15-20 minutes.
My brother had a similar problem and one doctor told him that it might be an alergic reaction to alcohol. I dont know how true it is or if it helps, but i hope it does.
I get this too! ...only seems to happen if i drink red wine (or sometimes beer) 5 mins or so after after food. seems to be more prone to happen with certain foods (happens a lot with curry and i've also had it with pasta). I've probably had it about 30 times.
I can actually tell when it's going to happen...there's a certain 'feeling' in my mouth before hand and I've found that if i rinse my mouth out with water it goes away temporarily but will come back soon after.
Weird.

I had the same experience for a number of years, I drank heavy for a long time 12+ years drinking hard liquor and 10+ drinking beer, I am 39 and sober for going on 6 years. I thought it may be an allergic reaction to the barley or hops or what ever I also got the pain off some foods. I read one post that they were with a doctor when this happened to them and suggested it may be his saliva gland. I don't know if it is relevant or not but in 2005 I had to have my submandibular gland removed (saliva gland) and have not experienced the pain since.
The gland had to be removed because a calcium build up formed a rather large stone and wouldn't let the gland drain properly and got badly infected, it looked like i had a baseball growing out of my neck and extremely painful.

I am going thru the same thing, it only started a couple months ago, but it seems that everytime I have some alcoholic drink, I have this horrible pain in my jaw for about 20 mins. If anyone finds out more, please post! Its an awful pain, nice to know I am not alone
stem from a slight allergic reaction. I had a major one after RED wine (pinot noir) which I'm now deathly allergic too. Becareful and consult and allergist.
I am experiencing the same sort of pain after drinking wine (even if only half a glass). It has increased in sharpness lately, but I know of no explanation.
I had serious reactions to Lipitor a couple of years ago, and I suspect it triggered fibromyalgia or something like that, but my doctor dismissed the possibility (perhaps out of fear of a lawsuit...).
I will be very glad to know the cause and/or the cure for this problem.

Wow, there are other people out there! I thought it was my wisdom teeth. Got them removed and I still get this weird pain/tingly feeling. I've also been experiencing vertigo when I lie down. It was not until tonight when I was enjoying a glass of wine after a long days work and the gym that I linked the two together. My doctor has discounted my dizziness as I am a healthy, very active 27 year old. Anyone experience vertigo as well?
Wow... I have this too. I have it right now. It's agony.
The worst time I ever had it, my glands actually swelled up and it looked like I had golfballs on my neck, it was terrible.

This is so wierd, i didnt even think i'd find anything on the web! i get severe pain when drinking alcohol. Pain occurs in my Left jaw. Last week pain also persisted the day after - when my jaw suddently snapped. -very painful event! Does not occur with any other drink. I have a good set of teeth and what i consider a perfect occlusion - i do not gring my teeth at night thus no reason to have tmj problems. I am a dental surgery student - tomorrow i'll ask my consultant lecturer maybe he'll come up with some form of an answer!! :-)
