ALLERGIC REACTION!!! WASH IT OFF OR GET IT OUT RIGHT AWAY..IT'S NOT WORKING IT'S MAGIC IT'S f*****g BURNING THE INSIDE OF YOUR VAGINA! YOU ARE NOT ALONE. It's been over three f*****g weeks since I used the product and still am feeling the horrific effects. Gyno said just try sitz baths a couple times a day, benedryl or pain killers, no sex til 100% & never to use any of the monistat products or similar generic brands because I will most likely have the same bad reaction again. My swelling has gone down some but not completely. I still feel pain..it's hard not to feel frustrated and discouraged but am looking foward to feeling a 100% down there...hopefully soon:/

I just bought this monistat 1 and inserted it about 20 mins ago. THIS IS THE WORST BURN EVER. I pray you do not buy this. The " ovule" of cream is huge , God knows how long this sensation will last

Monistat 7 hasn't ever given me problems but monistat 1, 3 & Tioconazole absolutely HATE my lady parts :( I prefer diflucan as it works almost instantly & (praise Him) no side effects that I've ever noticed. . Between sex & my cycle I tend to get bv & yeast infections more often than I care to admit but I believe the horrible Ph "down there" is hereditary.. for immediate valvular relief I soak in a hot bath & burn the germs off (don't jude it has proven more effective than ANY cream & it's cheaper annnd relaxing (you can scratch too) just stay in until ur swelling & itching subsides) also when it comes to sex I use the Skyn condoms.. they work so well, don't dry me out or irrittate me like the other types (latex free, ladies). Roll up for this post is: monistat 7, HOT bath (or even a (damn near scalding rag (to YOUR pain threshold)), Skyn (for sex), diflucan (prescription) & metronidazole (also prescribed if it's bv) My lady parts talk to me.. we love each other & I try to avoid & learn from what hurts her :) in return she treats me well too. We're BESTIES!

You all are life savers! I was two hours in to the HORRIBLE MIND NUMBING WORST OF MY LIFE DISCOMFORT itching and burning after monosyat 1. I came online looking for why this was happening to me and found this board. Per the advice, I washed off the external cream and soaked in a scalding hot bath for a while. Now I'm laying down letting the bits air out. I think going bottomless is helping because there is nothing to rub against the irritated area. I MIGHT actually get some sleep to tonight! An hour ago, when I was crying and actually screaming in pain, I did not think that was possible. Hoping its tolerable tomorrow! I think next time I will go with the 7 day. Thank you, ladies!

It is both a relief and upsetting reading all these comments... At least I'm not alone. I used monistat 1 at 11pm, it is now 4am and I am awake with unbearable itching. I just hope it goes away soon, it has made me extremely anxious. Luckily I'm going to the doctor tomorrow so hopefully I can get a pill to clear this up. This feeling is worse than the actual yeast infection I had. I wish I read these reviews before I bought monistat. I just woke my mother up and asked if she ever used it. She said she did but it just didn't work. I can't take this itching though. If you're considering buying monistat, go to your doctor first and see if you can get the oral medication, because I know that actually works. Don't risk suffering like this!

So I recently got my first yeast infection ever. It's very mild, and not serious at all, but I figured lets just cure it anyway. I bought monostat 1 this morning and when I came home from work and took a shower I decided to use it. I used the monostat 1 at 9pm and within ten minutes my vagina started to itch so bad! It's now 2:40am and I haven't been to sleep yet. I'm still itching and I'm experiencing some burning. My vagina is very sore and the pain the medicine is causing is worse than the infection itself !!!! I'm going to take a shower right now to attempt to get the medication out, hopefully it helps! I'm tired!!!

Hi Ladies,

I am so relieved to read your posts. I have never had this problem with Monistat 1 before, but after 15 minutes I was itching and burning to the point that I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. This is the worst feeling ever! However, I am feeling a bit better about an hour later...I wet a towel with cold water and put between my legs. This helped to soothe it a little. I know moisture isn't good for YIs so I'm going to dry it and try to get some sleep. Good luck!

My period was finally over, and, I had the tell-tale signs of a yeast infection to follow... Oh JOY! I had never heard of Monistat1 prior to going to the store to get the vaginal anti-fungal treatment (yeah, that's what the packages say in the store... isn't there a way they can make the packaging a little more discrete!)  My plan was to go later at night, grab the Monistat 3 (which I have had success with in the past with no side effects), throw it in my basket, use the self-checkout and get the heck out of the store before running into someone I knew.  After stalling in front of the ibuprofen until the coast was clear, I finally made my way to the vaginal care area.  It was then that I saw the Monistat1, which wasn't an option the last time I had a YI. I really wanted to read the package to see what this was all about, but because I didn't want to be seen doing this, I just went on the assumption that the 1 day meant it would be taken care of in one day.... advanced technology... (and hey, I'm all for that. I hate the 3-day mess, and the thought of 7 days -- no way... and maybe sex sooner!) Going with my whim, I tossed it into my basket, trying to hide it under 3 other things I didn't need at the moment (purely for camouflage). I got home, said hi to the honey, went into the bathroom and inserted at about 8:30 pm and kept my activity low (I laid in bed and watched TV). I slept through the night fine, but when I woke up at 6:30 am, I thought my YI symptoms had gotten worse and thought maybe I had something more drastic going on down there (just to set the record straight, I'm 42 years old and I'm only sexually active with one man so, an STD was not a conclusion). Here's what I felt: like my whoo haa was swollen,  a minor burning sensation and a little itching, but not as much itching as minor burning.  It did not burn when I peed though, so that was good. I took a shower hoping this would lessen the irritation, but it didn't offer much relief.  I took a mirror and looked down there, it was not red, there was no discharge at all and no smell... it looked normal. I did put some of the anti-itch cream on that came with the package because I didn't want to be totally uncomfortable at work.  Before calling the dr., I decided to do some research and found these blogs, and thank goodness I did because the thought of going to the Dr. for this was NOT on my priority list! It is now 18 hours post-insertion and the discomfort has gone away and I'm feeling normal again. I still have no abnormal amounts of discharge (not to the point where I need a panty liner like when I have taken the 3-day dosages).  I plan to refrain from sex for at least the next two days;  I want to be sure it clears up completely before possibly contaminating my honey (or being embarrassed if I did), or risking prolonging my YI by irritating my whoo haa more. I would definitely take it again. It's like another blogger said, everyone is different.  It also depends upon your tolerance for discomfort or pain. Minor to me may be major for someone else, and some people just like the drama of it all too! My thought process is, if I have to go through this discomfort for a day or two knowing it will get better, I can deal with that. :)  If in the next two days anything worsens, I'll be sure to come back with an update. The blog will start out as BOY WAS WRONG ;).... however, I'm an optimistic person so I don't feel there will be a follow-up post.

I'm working on a health article for Cosmo Mag about women who've experienced this reaction. I'm looking for women ages 20 to 35 who would be willing to share their story. I can protect your privacy. Please contact me at:

I know I'm quite late but I've seen most people have problems with monistat 1 and 3 because its a higher dosage for the cream. I self diagnosed my YI after about a week of problems and the "cottage cheese looking discharge." I was recently on 2 rounds of different antibiotics plus steroids so I knew it was a YI. I got monistat 7 because I figured I needed a longer dosage because I've had the problem for a while. The first night, the inside of my vagina burned, it felt like it was on fire. I took my sleeping pill and fell asleep about an hour later. The next morning most of the itch was gone and so was the discharge and discomfort. Long story short, try monistat 7; it might take longer to go away but it's a weaker solution and will only burn one night.

Hi--

I'm writing a piece for Cosmo Mag on women having horrible reactions to Monistat 1. I'd like to share your story as a way to warn other women. (I wish I had know when I used it last year, and I've interviewed doctors who say it's a common reaction.)

Please message me, if you're interested. I don't have to use your full name.

Best,
Sarah

I wish I would have read this BEFORE I bought this "medicine." I've had YI before (antibiotics, stress) but I had a date planned for tomorrow night so I thought "I'll try the 1 day... The 3 day always worked before." Never have I been so wrong and I'm already planning the funeral of my vagina. About an hour after I put it in I woke up with the worst itch in my vag. I thought it was just YI being their normal self. The itch did not go away and started to burn. I started wiggly around trying not to scratch and started crying my eyes out and called my mom at 3 am in desperation. She called me a s*** and said its probably an std (thanks mom, but not exactly what I wanted to hear when I'm in the midst of dying). I kept reading this forum and took the advice. Took a long shower and tried to scoop out as much as I could (which hurt too so I stopped). Feeling a little relief at this point, but I'm a teacher and I needed something more so I could go to work. Then went to CVS and got some benedryl and Tylenol pm. I'm in bed with an ice pack between my legs and feeling better... At least not itchy. Burning is a bit more manageable. This is the worst product I have ever had the misfortune of taking and will be sending the company a very angry email demanding it's removal (and maybe my $20 back). I can't believe it ever passed drug trials. Clearly the makers never used it themselves. Best of luck to any who are suffering and reading this.

I just wanted to thank everybody for their posts about the monistat. It has provided me much comfort at 2:30 in the morning as I lie here with my vajayjay on fire from using the darn monistat 3 for the first time tonight. It's been awhile since I had a yeast infection and I know it's not an std since I haven't been having any sex .... So finally after scratching my wonderland for about a week, I decided to try it. Only I didn't read this forum first, which I should have. So I inserted the cream about an hour and a half ago and I barely made it to my bedroom, when the intense itching and burning started. O.M.G.... This was worse than what I've been through this past week!! I did read on the pack that it could cause mild burning and itching....are u kidding me???!!! Mild??? It was more like SEVERE!!! Over the past hour I've experienced uncontrollable itching, burning and feeling like my vajayjay was pulsating.. I do admit that it has subsided and I don't have any itching right now, but I do feel a little bit of burning and it does feel like it could be swollen down there because I definitely went to town when it was itching... I am praying that the worst is over and I am afraid to go to the bathroom in fear that it will burn like it has done so many others and I don't know if I will be using dose 2 tomorrow night because I absolutely don't want to feel like this again! Good luck to all and maybe stick to the monistat 7....

Last night was my 1st time using monistat 1, but was not my first time with a vaginal yeast infection. The side effects were unbearable. I've never felt such an INTENSE burning sensation throughout the night. I silently cried and prayed to God for the burning to cease. My sister had to go through radiation and chemo for cancer treatment. I kept thinking to myself last night, if this burning sensation is anything like side effects my sister had after radiation, I don't know how she went through multiple sessions of her treatment. The burning sensation I experience was the worst I've ever had. It was if my insides were on fire and I wanted to put it out, but didn't know how. I agree with one reviewer who stated, it's like acid chemicals are on the inside of you. If you can bare the yeast infection before seeing your doctor, do so.
