I am interested to know what causes sinus tachycardia. I overheard my parent’s conversation last night. It seems that my dad has been ill for some time and they kept it away from me. He mentioned sinus tachycardia to mom and I can’t figure it out what it is.

Sinus tachycardia occurs when the sinus mechanism is accelerated although pattern of atrial and ventricular activation is normal. It is characteristic that ECG shows atrial rate between 100 and 160 bpm, P waves with a normal configuration and axis, PR interval normal or slightly shortened, and a normal QRS pattern. Usual treatments are beta-adrenergic.
