Hi
I am a 13 year old girl, and recently I've been getting red, swollen, burning, ichy armpits (both armpits? And it happens every time I use deodorant. I've tried to use different types and brands. They all seem to do it to me. Why is this?

Sorry for my ENGLISH, Im having the same exact problem, about lymph nodes or whatever, the cause swollen lymph nodes may be bcause of bacteria, Try to take AUGMENTIN, taking it twice a day, for 5 days. and see the result.

I want to reply in regards to the suggestion that just 'popular deoterants' can cause the swollen lymph nodes in the armpits as some suggest. I used a 'natural' brand and had a horrible reaction to the product. I am experiencing a chemical burn and swollen lymph nodes in both arm pits since using it. I find that if I keep my arm pit hair longer it does not bother it as much (perhaps protect it). But I am a women, an American one at that and long arm pit hair is not exactly popular in my country. I would suggest not using anything for a while, let whatever is irritating your body work its way out. Switching deodorant brands could possibly aggravate it worse. Just my two cents.

Try moisturizing after shaving, try not putting on so much deodorant, and try not shaving before applying deodorant.

I tried using prescription strength deodorant and it helped me stop having pain.

You are exactly right. There have been studies done showing lots of deodorants containing cancer causing products. I have been having swollen lymph nodes too...I thought they were ingrown hairs at first...I think things are getting kicked up a notch on the depopulation thing because deodorant I've always used is now causing these swollen lymph nodes. I never had them until about a year ago...now I'm desperately looking for a deodorant that works that won't upset my underarms...29 year old female by the way. Soo annoying! We just want to live in peace!

Me too! Luckily my husband loves me because I haven't shaved in almost a year! I can't...as soon as I put deodorant on...bam. Large painful swollen lymph nodes. I still get them every now and then even with the hair...but I don't have very much hair so maybe that's why

I am so glad to come across this. I have been internally freaking out for days. My armpits, back, and breast have been feeling really weird since last week and I even have a lump on my arm (just appeared in hours). I am very healthy, mid 30s, and just had a full physical. I freaked out as I have high anxiety but then last night I calmed myself down so I could think logically. Then the "aha" moment. I have been feeling this way since I put a new deodorant on last week. UGH. Saw this post and I talked to a nurse and she said she has seen this quite a bit. Should go away in a couple of days. Terrified to use deodorant again though and definitely never using Secret Clinical Strength again!

I started using a new deodorant (non-gel like) and I got some painful small lumps in my underarms too. They feel sore, but I'm not sure when they'll go away. Can anyone tell?

This happened to me two weeks ago and I freaked out big time. I normally use Secret sports and found a new deodorant that was more natural without the bad chemicals in it. It smelled really good so I thought why not. I used it but it really didn't work, and the next two days my armpits started to itch and became really sore. They eventually swelled up and were pretty red and tender for a few days before fading. During these two weeks I've avoided using anything post shower on them to let them relax which seems to have helped (or time, either way). If it happens again, try taking some allergy medication because you're clearly having a reaction that came on fast.
