I too have had a tonsillectomy and adenoids removed in December 2012. I have been sick for a year and my white blood count is elevated at times. I have an inflammed throat and also feels like a lump in my throat. My doctor said my tongue was inflamed and my throat. I had found out before my tonsillectomy I had a thyroid nodule but my thyroid still works. I have been having a lot of infections especially in my bladder~I still wonder if yeast is not playing a role in all this. I keep telling my doctors something is wrong I'm sick all the time. I've had a lot of test done but I don't understand why they never did a biopsy on this nodule and maybe one on my throat as well. I need to find out what doctor checks for yeast. If anyone has anything like this~I would like to know about your experiences and if you got any answers. We have to be proactive about our health because no one else will. Good luck to all of you and hope we all get answers

You seem to be very informed. You say that you had a sore throat for a year prior to tonsillectomy. It may be as simple as this: the inflammation that caused you to have a sore throat BEFORE tonsillectomy is still present AFTER the tonsillectomy. One thing's for sure: it's not your tonsils! Fact is, many people continue to have sore throat after tonsillectomy. You are on the right track with your allergy presumption. Also, you are on the right track with the suspicion of food allergy being the culprit. Dairy is, indeed, the most common culprit, and gluten plays a role also. The difficult part is that it's difficult to turn off an immune system, which has been stimulated for decades with these allergens, with a few weeks or months of avoidance. Keep up the good fight and don't give up the fight.

Yes, very similar! I am now 3 1/2 months out & I feel like I am choking when I swallow, there is a swollen feeling on my left tonsil area and the left sie looks half closed over by scar tissue. My Dr, keeps telling me it looks good & is normal. He did send me for something called a Speech and Swallowing Exam at the local hospital where they video in real time so you get your results instantly and they watch on sonogram while you eat, drink, chew etc... an array of foods laced with barium dye. I suggest you have that test and ask for it immediately. My test showed that my epiglottis may have been damaged during the procedure? I am waiting for answers on that but this is very serious. I wish you well & please get that test ASAP.

I had my tonsils removed in August and I have almost exactly the same symptoms. I was researching to see what it might be and I found this post. Have you found a resolution?

I've had my tonsils removed just under a month ago, and after getting an infection during the first week and having heavy bleeding during the second. The third week my throat felt a lot better and I didn't have any pain except from when yawning.
However today I have developed a sort of sand paper feel on the back on my tounge and it is also painful to swallow. I've look at my throat and can see on the walls on where my tonsils we're there is still a little white flesh which is the same colour as the excess scare tissue after the operation.
Can anyone help me out at all ?

Hi there, I have had a similar experience. I had really bad tinsilitis for over a year, had them out two and a half months ago and I still feel I'll. my throat is sore in the night and I feel achy and tired in the day - done days are better than others. I thought the op would help but it seems not. The doctors don't seem to know what is wrong, I've had a few negative tests for glandular fever. I hope we get some help or answers. X
