spirochetes are form of bacteria that are shaped like a corkscrew or a spiral, hence the name spiro -chete. Some common varieties you know as syphillis or lime disease. If you cathc an infection early and get it treated with a cycline antibiotic (doxycycline probably), then you wil likely have no lasting side effects, though the bateria do release a toxin as they die. However, if the disease is not treated, it can so permanent damage to your organs and brain.
