Hi,

I'm 20 years old female
I have grade 1 spondylolisthesis--
I'm not an athlete, I wasn't in an accident ... I was just.. "born" with it. I really don't understand why i have this because I usually don't lift heavy things...no extreme sports...no physical labour etc...

**I would like to know if spondy usually gets worse w time?

spondy didn't give me much pain, but I accidentally injured myself while extending my back and this recent injury has been giving me some discomfort (sitting down for long period of time tires my back...and i have a sore butt from time to time now..its been 2 months since this 'injury' happened)

I'm planning to take a semester off (about 4-5 months) and concentrate on my back this coming year (2011..so like in a couple of weeks)--physio/accupuncture/chiro whatever it takes...
I'm just afraid that it might spontaneously slip further even after my effort to prevent further slippage.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THIS CONDITION?
i am only 20. and im scared of my future already...i'm being EXTRA careful now..i really didn't think having spondy was that bad because my doc told me there's nothign i can do.."just don't lift heavy things.."only after this recent injury(back extension) made me realize how horrifying spondy can be..
Some people do get born with “loose” vertebrates and they get spondylolisthesis regardless of sports, lifting heavy things or whatever although in each and every case these kinds of behavior just like excessive or unadjusted exercise can make condition worsen. In theory spondylolisthesis is not progressive disease unless you put strain on your back, but in reality you can’t always control what happens and you can’t just lie in bed all the time. Over time, pain could get worse and depending on how much spinal cord gets under pressure. But, there are surgical procedures that are regularly done to correct the bigger problems caused by overlapping vertebrates.
