i had the similar experience after my wisdom tooth extraction. on my next visit i asked asked dentist the reason 4 the same and he told me that they do it so that gum area of the extracted site should not sink and no conclave is made there. this also helps in food particles not sticking there and causing infection. I am satisfied with his explanation. hope you guys too.

my dentist says my cheek is stitched to my gum (I thought it was too) and that it has made a pocket which will get infected if left - so i have to go back to the surgeon and get him to release it. He said that sometimes this happens because the gum and the cheek are damaged and the heal together, and some times it's because they have anchored the stitches in your cheek and it all gets pulled together - either way, pretty annoying.

I have the same problem and it's really making me nuts..:-) My cheeks and my lower gum became attached after the extraction. I just noticed it last night, that was three days after the extraction. I'm really worried.. Does anyone here has any explanation on that? Geez.. This is the first time this bizaare thing happened to me. I just hope it ain't serious though.. Thanks! :-)

I think this happens all the time. I took my daughter back in and the surgeon told me I wasn't correct. You could even see the stitch in my daughters cheek and her speech was off too!!! So I marcher into our regular dentists office and he told me that after it heals he could laser it to free it up.....if it didn't come loose by itself.....It's now 6 months later and m daughter says it's ok now....still feels tight on one side but her speech has cleared up....which is good because she is a theater major and you need to be able to understand her! What an ordeal!!! The Doctor that did the surgery was more concerned on his work and how he wouldn't have done anything better etc......I think they should just inform the folks up front!!! Good luck everyone!!!

the stitch in your cheek after wisdom tooth extraction is to keep the gum flap elevated not allowing any food lodging in there. It can be removed on your own after 3 days of surgery. Doing so is not advisable.

I had the same thing happen to me. After the stitches dissolved I was left with an indentation on the outside of my cheek, which looks like a dimple without the smile. I am also looking for answers to this problem since it has caused me much pain and emotional stress.

I am unsure of the reason but I had my wisdom teeth removed Thursday last week and they did the same thing to me! I have been stretching my mouth to try to open it to eat, now I know why I can't! I will not be trying to do that any more!

Hi folks,
This happened to me too. When my bottom wise-tooth was removed, the dentist sew my cheek to my gum.
When i saw this, it got me quite scared, but now it is all ok (1 month later).
It hurt a lot after the operation for over a week and my mouth volume felt smaller and kinda uncomfortable :D
Shortly, maybe 6 hours, after the stiches were removed i felt that the volume of my mouth is normal again.
Apparently the stitch did not cause my cheek to permanently meld with my gum (which was my greatest concern).
Right now there is a gigantic hole at the place where my tooth was. It also hurts when i drink something too hot or cold and sometimes food gets stuck in it, which is irritating ...
My dentist said the hole will disappear, but it may take 6 months or more.
